Okay so like in 897 CE, Pope Stephen VI put the corpse of his predecessor, Pope Formosus, on trial yeah you read that right, a corpse on trial. The body was even dressed in papal robes and propped up in a chair to make it look more legit. The Pope was all salty because he thought Formosus was a heretic, and he wanted to invalidate all of Formosus' decisions. The trial was a total sham, with the corpse obviously not being able to defend itself. In the end, the corpse was found guilty and all of Formosus' acts were annulled.
