54 rue Lepic - Van Gogh used to live here. His apartment was behind a top right window on the third floor. Van Gogh was one of many young and aspiring artists who came to Montmartre for its (then) affordable rent, cheap alcohol, friendly ladies of the night and, perhaps most importantly, creative friction that came from many other artists of the era living there.
