FIGMENT: CHAPTER 11 <--click
Chapter 11 is up, titled, "Monster". I found my long lost password to my google docs and my AO3 accounts. Yay! Honestly, I've had this chapter written for over a year. Big thank you to my editor (preview reader person of awesome, you know who you are.) I'll likely add a sketch or two to illustrate this chapter sometime down the road. Here's an excerpt: ----------------------------------------- CH11: Monster
“Now we’re returning to Coruscant?” Todo asked, surprised.
“Yess, now, Todo.”
“I was beginning to think you didn’t care about the starfighter.”
“By rights what’s mine is mine,” Bane replied. “I’ll see everything lost returned to me.”
The ship descended into the skylines of the city planet. He set it down in his secret hideout in the industrial district. Smoke plumed out of stacks and pipes transported unknown amounts of sludge, water, sewage, and gas. It wasn’t the most pleasant of places. The landing pad itself was crumbling. The district was the planet’s equivalent to a wasteland. All the factories had been abandoned for more cost effective off-world manufacturing. What was left was meek buildings of fifty or so stories, including a former detention center. This center is where Bane did much of his dirty work. Although his apartment in The Hole boasted sound proof walls and security measures, other bounty hunters sometimes got cheeky ideas and stuck their noses where they didn’t belong. Out here was secluded from nearly everything except feral droids.
The two left the ship and walked toward the detention center’s entrance. The building leaned over them. The rusted, angled pillars held up the overbearing thirty floors like an old man’s bony knees. Ahead of them, a couple feral droids wandered aimlessly. One of them was an R3 unit that kept bumping into the railings, and the other was a smelting droid. Its jerky movements spoke of corroded joints. Bane stopped and Todo slowed behind him. The feral droids jerked and rolled toward them, slow at first, and then sped faster. Bane grimaced at Todo.
“Don’t look at me. They’re not my friends,” Todo said.
The R3 unit’s sides panels opened with a pop and various tool arms began to wave threateningly. The smelting droid began to mutter incoherently, with only two words making sense.
“Oil baetieg-g-g-g-g blasted baagteeg-g-g-g-g-icky- icky- botaaaannngwa- wa-wa-wa.” The smelter droid lunged at Bane. He side-stepped and its robotic hand whacked Todo instead.
“Not the face!” Todo exclaimed. He landed on his metal rear. The smelter droid didn’t seem interested in attacking one of its kind. It continued its attack on the Duros instead. Bane was ready for the swipe and sidestepped again. He caught the droid’s neck from behind and activated his gauntlet. An electrical charge wracked through the old components and the smelter droid crumpled to the ground.
Todo back-stepped, “Oh dear.” The R3 unit was on him. It rolled too fast and hit the distracted Todo with full force, knocking both of them onto the duracrete. The R3’s cylindrical body pinned Todo down. Todo, a much smaller droid, wiggled helplessly underneath it. “Bane! Help me, help me!”
The Duros took out a toothpick and placed it in his mouth. He watched the two droids struggle, both equally unable to get up. Bane scoffed, “Come’on, Todo. Quit playin’ with yer friend.”
“He is NOT my friend!” Todo whined. “No?” Bane said. “You two seem... chummy.”
The R3 unit spouted a slur of beeps and whistles.
Todo gasped, “Plug you where? How obscene! I would never!”
