Rumi going “Oh, that’s a normal thing kids do? That wasn’t just another demonic trait that I had to suppress?”

And then Mira going “Sighh. Wish I could’ve done that. My parents shut down any unlikeable childish habits before they could even fester”

so celine, in my mind, loves rumi. loves her quirks, loves her weirdness, loves her so much that in her mind the best thing to do to show that love is to find a way to get rumi’s demon side away from her because that’d make things so much easier for her, in celine’s mind

and so, she finds a spell in the old archives, when rumi is maybe 11-13. says it’ll take away her demon side, and it seems promising

she performs the spell, and it works, but she starts to notice rumi acting strange afterward.

not strange as in normal rumi strange. strange, as in she’s almost muted now.

her patterns are gone, her purple hair is black now, but it seems a lot of her personality had gone with it? she doesn’t talk back, doesn’t question, doesn’t even call her cece anymore.

everything is “yes celine😐” “no celine😐” “i’ll try harder next time, celine😐” and it MAJORLY freaks celine out, because who is this rumi? where is her child ward, the one whose personality she had the privilege of seeing blossom all these years?

it doesn’t take celine too long to realise that by ripping away half of who rumi is (was?), she’s ripped away half of what makes rumi, rumi

and how is she supposed to fix that? can she even fix it? does rumi even know the magnitude of what’s been done to her?

celine has to ask herself — can she forgive herself for this?

Let’s assume that Celine took Rumi demon hunting for the first time before Huntrix was formed. Rumi had seen drawings of demons in her lessons, knew the different kinds and how to fight them after years of Celine’s combat drills. The first time seeing one had to have been horrible for her!

I know the demons are kind of “kid-friendly” scary, but I am genuinely creeped out by them. Now, I imagine how terrifying that must have been for Rumi, with the same patterns on her arm that could one day transform her into one of those horrifying, inhuman creatures she was destined to kill. And that with each inch they spread across her body, the more terrified she became that she would fail. God, that would be so, so, so frightening.

Then Rumi is with Mira and Zoey when they see a demon for the first time in person and afterwards, Mira and Zoey are talking about how scary and ugly the demons are, how horrible they were and how good it felt to fight and win against them.

Meanwhile, Rumi listens to them, stock still as she imagines herself failing to turn the Honmoon gold and her best friends turning their weapons on the terrifying, ugly demon that was once their friend.

Shorter than the last chapter but that was always the plan, this one is just a short and sweet one.

So I was mowing around the paddocks for our Alpacas and listening to some music when an idea popped in my head.

He looks at her, remains silent for awhile, smiles as their eyes met before he parts his lips to say one word and he hoped to the high heaven he doesn't mispronounce it since he's walking into uncharted territory. "Hey, yeobo."

Rumi had never thought of herself as the domestic type. The life of an idol (and a hunter) left little room for stillness. It was relentless and fast-paced: comeback after comeback, battle after battle. If she wasn’t sweating, she wasn’t living. If she wasn’t bleeding, she hadn’t earned the prestige.

And yet, here she was — cozied up with a book and a warm cup of tea, a scented candle half-melted beside her, peppermint lingering in the air. Calm. Warm. Content. Maybe there was truth to the saying to be loved is to be changed. She was changed, and for once, it felt like it was for the better.

Just as the thought crossed her mind, she looked up. A familiar pulse of demonic energy gently brushing against her senses, calling to her own. There was no telling how long he’d been watching her. A few minutes, maybe? (certainly not hours ) but long enough that when their eyes met and he spoke, her heart skipped.

"E-Eh? Where’d you learn that?" Her face flushed instantly, eyes widening — bright as the silver moonlight spilling through the window. Leave to him to surprise her and leave her stupefied without lifting a finger. He probably didn't even know the meaning! "Y-You can’t say that so casually! Are you trying to kill me?"
