Dreams || II || Self
I lost my mind, long ago, down the yellow brick road…
****
“GET ME OUT! I’M RIGHT! I HAVE MAGIC!” This was a constant thing she would yell from her room in the hospital. This was a different looking hospital, not like the others she’d seen. Not like the one they had in Leadworth, that was for sure.
They were telling her she was making this all up, but she knew she wasn’t, she couldn’t be. Why would someone make something like this up? It wasn’t like Amy liked the yelling she got from her Aunt. Or the looks she got from the other kids she would tell. None of them believed her.
“I have to have magic, they’re all wrong!” This time, her voice was a bit more tired. Weary, and ready to give up.
Truth was, as much as she believed in herself, it was getting too much. It would be easier, much easier, if she just gave in at this point. It was like she had anyone who believed in her.
Not one person.
“Please..”
Amy sat in the corner of this weird room, in this different looking hospital and put her head in her hands, her legs curled up to her chest. Maybe she could resign to the fact that no one would ever believe her. That she always would have magic but...no it wouldn’t be enough for them.
Six months later:Â
Amy was sitting in her house, no one was there. There was no Rory Williams to bother, to tell her she wasn’t crazy, to stop her from doing stupid things. The girl was medicated beyond recognition, she had given in to what the psychiatrists had said. That magic wasn’t real. Rory wasn’t there to tell her otherwise. Her room wasn’t painted her favorite shade of blue like her and Rory had did one summer. There were no pictures, moving or otherwise. It was a sterile, white room. It was barren.
It’s not like little Amelia Pond knew her life could be different though, because she never met him in the first place.

“Amy? Amy!” Someone was shaking her and she scrambled to wake up.
Groggily she said, “What?”
“You’re alright. Good. Ok.” Amy looked up to who the voice belonged to and saw Rory Williams eyes looking at her full of concern. Taking a deep breath of relief, she gave him a hug which sort of strangled him, but she knew he’d live. Amy wasn’t the most affectionate kid, so this surprised him.
“What was that for?”
“Just get that look of your stupid face and help me up, Rory.” Rory helped her up and Amy dusted herself off.
“We should go back anyways, Pond.”
Amy usually would have fought him on this, but after her little - whatever that was - she just wordlessly nodded and followed him back to his house.
The Amy we knew now, woke up, her eyes shooting open and waking with a start. Looking at the clock on the wall, it was 4 A.M. Groaning, she took her pillow from under her head and pushed it against her face.
This was getting ridiculous. She had never dreamed, or at least not for a while, and now she was. They weren't even pleasant, any of the dreams. So were they nightmares? Didn't people have nightmares when really bad things happened, or something like that? Amy didn't really know or care, all she knew is that she wanted sleep and sadly, she wasn't getting any.Â
She wanted to go to Rory, but, there was no point. A part of her hated having to push him away like this, but she thought it would be better for him, at least it was now. Alone. She needed to be alone. She thought maybe it would help and be better that way.
