We're rewatching all 327 episodes of Supernatural, and then talking about them from a fanfic perspective!

We want to look for all the places in canon where we could add a scene, show a scene from a certain character’s point of view, or change something to make things turn out differently. (We may also critique what the show writers did; that seems inevitable.)

Who’s invited? All Pond members, including Turtles! You don’t have to be a writer to have an opinion on the episodes that could inspire a writer! Everyone has valuable opinions about the show and could spark conversation and inspiration.

Where will we meet? In the discord server. There will be a special channel for us to chat in so we don’t disturb other chats happening at the same time.

When will we meet? Twice a month on Saturday. Be on the lookout for announcement posts with specific dates and times.

How does it work? On our own, whenever we have time, we all watch two episodes of SPN. At the appointed time, we all get together and chat about them. Although we have several questions to consider and creative ideas for you to do if you want, there is no pressure to actually have answers to these questions or have created anything prior to the chat. Didn’t get to watch them? No biggie! We’ve all watched these episodes enough that we can probably talk about them without rewatching them!

What questions should we consider while we watch? We have a few questions you can keep in mind while you’re watching the episodes:

Are there any “fanfiction gaps” in this episode? Any places between scenes where a juicy story could happen? (For example, one scene ends at night, but the next scene begins during the day, and what did they do with all of that time?)

How would the episode be different if you changed one thing? What is changed is up to you. It could be as complex as a character making a different choice, or as simple or silly as someone wearing a funny hat throughout part or all of the episode.

What about this episode would you like to see happen differently? How would making that change affect future episodes?

List any parts of each episode that you think could be jumping-off points for a fic. Like, in the pilot, how did Sam meet their friend who was in the bar with them?

How would the episode be different if there were another character involved like a reader insert character?

What else can we do before the chat? Besides just discussing the fanfiction possibilities in every episode, we also want to encourage you to create things centered around the episodes we’re discussing and share them with the rest of us. Things like:

Write some meta about some part of the episode. What does this episode show us about one or more of the characters?

Write a fic based around the episode. Share a link to your fic in the discussion and we can talk about it!

Make a playlist that you feel reflects the mood of the episode.

Make some art or a photo collage or edits to go along with the episode.

The Archives

We know that not everyone can make it to the chats every time, so we’re looking for ways to include those who may miss them. Just because you can’t be in our discord server at a specific time doesn’t mean we don’t want to hear your ideas! Also, maybe you remember that someone said something interesting but don't want to scroll endlessly through chats to find it. This is why we created the Archives!

The Archives is a Google drive full of Google docs, one doc for each episode. We want everyone who has an interest to be able to go into these docs, read the notes for ideas, and add their own notes!

That's right. This is not just going to be a place for the admins to leave recaps of the chat. We want YOU to be able to add notes, too!

Every time we watch, we'll be looking for the same things. Fanfic gaps, plotholes, consistency errors, jumping-off points, meta ideas, and more. We want you to be able to deposit your suggestions right into the doc while you watch if you want. These will be living documents that we can all add to! We will still try to put in anything mentioned during the chats that isn't already there, so if you're uncomfortable adding your ideas yourself, we've got you covered.

The masterlist is in View-only mode, but you can click on the links to the episode docs. The episode docs are in Suggest mode, so anything you add will be accepted by the admins, and no one can delete your additions accidentally.

As we continue with this, some things may change and we will make changes to the docs as needed. If there is a change that you want to see us make, please let us know!

Our discord server is a great place to get to know your fellow Pondies, drop links to fic recs, drop links to your own stories, and talk about anything and everything!

Reminder - The rules of conduct for the Pond apply especially in the discord server. Treat your fellow Pondies as you would like to be treated! Here's the list of rules again:

No kink or ship shaming. We accept any and all forms of writing here. If you find it triggering, please do not read it. We encourage liberal use of warnings and tags so everyone can be safe.

Anyone found to be breaking the above will be removed from the Pond, including tag lists, the discord server, and any challenges.

THE POND SAFE WORD IS PUDDING!

The safe word is there for anyone to use. The pond safe word should be used at any point if you feel the conversation is going against any of the rules of conduct, contains NSFW content outside of NSFW channels, if the content/conversation is triggering, or in any situation where you feel uncomfortable with the conversation overall. Once the safe word is used, the conversation should stop, the participants should check in with each other, and the admins should be alerted by tagging the role (@admin).

Our goal is to make a space where everyone can feel comfortable and respected. You will see below that we have created channels for possibly triggering or NSFW content, so please use them accordingly!

Click here to join the server. Once you're in, you will need an admin to assign you a role in the server. After you have a role, you will be able to see all parts of the server and chat with your fellow Pondies!

Types of channels in the discord server

The server is always growing to better serve our members, so this list may not be all-inclusive.

Information channels - Here you will find channels where you can read the rules for the server, find news and announcements about upcoming Pond events, and introduce yourself to your fellow members.

Social channels - These channels are open to ALL members, whether they are writers, readers, or both. Any story ideas discussed between writers will be able to be seen by readers in these channels! We have channels where you can drop links to fics, discuss spoilers, share art, or even leave fic ideas for other writers to pick up and write!

** #funky-town is dedicated to those topics that could be considered possibly triggering to other members. If you're having a bad time and are looking for support about anything, this is the channel to go to. Frank discussions about topics that would require a trigger warning if written in a fic can be expected in this channel. If you are not in a headspace to read about someone else's trauma, then you should avoid this channel! **

Writer-only channels - If you are a Turtle member, then you will not be able to see these channels! This is where writers can go to bounce ideas around with other writers, or ask for help from alpha or beta readers. We also have channels for prompts, exercises, resources, and a channel for writing sprints!

NSFW channels - We have TWO channels for NSFW content: softcore and hardcore. Hardcore NSFW could include graphic art or photos. Softcore is where you can go if you're not sure if your discussion is NSFW or not. These channels are limited to members who are 18 or older.

Future cons and events - This is where you can go to find fellow Pondies who are attending SPN cons and events! Set up meetings, talk about tickets, find roommates, and share info with each other! Although we try to keep track of events and add channels for everything, we miss a lot. If you are attending an event and want us to create a channel for it, just ask an admin!! We want to make it easy for you to make friends and have fun, even outside of the Pond!

The Pond was created by Mana and Kale with the intention of bringing new authors and established writers together to help share and encourage creativity. This is an open place for writers to ask questions, meet new people/writers, get tips/advice/help with fics, running your own blog, and writing in general.

We have expanded our mission to include readers, because without readers, writers are nothing! If you love to read SPN fan fiction and want to get to know the writers you love, join us!
