look, folks, can you PLEASE:
put your long-ass text posts under the ‘more’ cut
learn to write effective teaser paragraphs to go above them, paired with images if needed
learn to break up walls of text with paragraphs. Buy a Chicago Manual of Style!
ESPECIALLY, put sensitive topics below the cut if you want to avoid accidentally triggering people
Remember that on people’s Tumblr feeds, if you write a super long post, that means THE WHOLE THING gets dumped into the feed.
This means, especially on mobile devices, you are making people scroll for anywhere from 5 to 20+ screens’ worth of content, whether they want to read it or not.
This is just poor formatting practice, inconsiderate, boring, and borderline rude. Let people read a teaser, THEN decide if they have the time or are mentally prepared to read it.
Further, if your post contains sensitive content, just adding a text notice at the top doesn’t change the fact that you dumped this sensitive content into my feed and are making me read it as I try to scroll past it.
And! If you include a translation? Now it’s TWICE as long. If you do this regularly, why not just start a second blog in that language?
Think about your readers. Be considerate of their time and energy. Learn how your platform works!
