So... my dad came to visit
Yours truly is a total daddy’s girl. Always been and probably always will. My folks split up before i was born but my father made sure he was always present in my life. When it comes to my dad we have a pretty good relationship and as far as he’s concern, i am the most awesome freaking thing that happened since the wheel. No i do not go through life acting that way because that would be a very pompous way to live. But lets just say the man really loves me and has instilled in me a great sense of self worth.
Now my dad doesn't know that im poly, nor that i have a boyfriend and...
we live together, i know im a freaking open book.
Telling my dad all of this all at once felt...well im pretty sure is over kill. The carpenter is the first guy who i ever felt was good enough to meet my dad, but the wife, kind and bipolar disorder thing makes it complicated[ oh right darlings did i not say,The Carpenter is bipolar but that a story for an other day]. So we pick my dad up from the airport. The Carpenter comes out shake his hand and i introduce him as my bf. i think all is well and we get in the car. in true old Haitian man fashion my dad totally ignore his presence. On top of that The Fold [endearing nickname for my polypod] agreed that The Carpenter would go stay with his best friend and Sisterwife would pretend to my roommate.
Now i fully intend on telling my dad one day soon [in like a year... or five]
For the next two days my dad goes on ignoring The Carpenter still, which makes him even more nervous because he badly wants to impress my dad. i love my dad but i love my bf too. i have never been a believer in letting my parents influence my relationship choices. As matter of fact i have no respect for people who would rather be unhappy to please their families, peers by choosing the so called right race, religion and gender rather than try, stop being so fucking spineless go be happy[ side PSA]. i pull my dad aside and asked him what did he think of the Carpenter. My dad asked me if he treated me with respect, if his intentions were noble, if he were a good man, would his parents be ok with him being a relationship with a black woman. After i assured him that he was indeed a good man with good intentions towards me, my dad became really nice to him. It was like a fucking switch.
i am lucky to have the kind of father who's biggest concern is my happiness, trust and respect my judgment and choices.
Before he left my dad totally became a member of team Carpenter, he even asked when were we getting married and talked about all the fun things he’s going to do with our hypothetical child.i felt bad busting his bubble so i did not tell him that we will not be getting married... [since you know the carpenter is already married] and i don't want or even like kids, but i’ll save this conversation for an other visit i don't want to give him a heart attack. In the mean time yours truly is a happy camper
