Backstory:

Josephine (Jo) Buckthorn comes from a very long line of pureblood witches and wizards that actually originate from America. When she was very young, her family moved to Derry, Ireland so that her mother could take a job studying leprechauns. Despite being a pureblood, her parents emphasized the importance of learning from muggles. Because of this, by the time she was 11, Jo was very well versed in muggle culture and had a huge penchant for muggle jazz. Luckily, her extra knowledge did not put her at a disadvantage in the Slytherin common room, instead giving many of the students the closest link they had ever had to the muggle world. Jo’s first four years of Hogwarts were very uneventful, except for the fact that she showed a great aptitude for ancient runes and arithmancy. 

In the summer after her 4th year at Hogwarts, Jo and her three brothers came home to Derry to find both her parents dead, a vampire hovering over both, sucking their blood. She was lucky enough to escape the interaction with her younger brother Erik, and a scar on her left eye. After that, Jo became intent on learning everything she could about vampires and eradicating every last one in existence.
