prologue . 01 . 02 . 03 . 04 . 05 . 06 . 07 . 08 . the end
After confirmation of the surgery, it became prepping sessions. Your doctor slowly took you off the chemo and gave you medication to ease any discomfort. You were given less visiting hours because you needed to rest.
But your troubles stirred when you were alone. The moment replayed in your mind when Jennie told you that they were broken up. There was nothing you could say, nothing for you to fix. Jennie and Jimin were respectfully dating you, aware of your decision for still wanting to be with the both of them. It didn’t feel the same though, it didn’t feel secure or safe.
There was no way you could date them separately. Jimin lacked what Jennie brought to the relationship and vise versa. It wasn’t complete without the both of them. Your nurses didn’t let you worry about that, brushing away Jimin and Jennie during your resting hours.
Jungkook visited you once after you added him back onto your list. He also brought you a vase of your favorite flowers. There was part of you where you didn’t want to make things awkward, but the other part didn’t allow for that. Instead, you blurted out that you knew about his crush on you. Then, he left quickly after you rejected his offer to be with him.
Hoseok respected your time and didn’t visit when he wasn’t allowed to. You were aware of how he had other important events in his life, but you really wished he tried to see you more. You’d hate to admit it, but Hoseok seemed to be the only person you could turn to for any non-biased advice. Since he stopped coming around often, you had to turn to your nurses.
The two weeks were absolutely the dullest moment in your life. You thought that living in your small town with your mom was bad, this was worse. You were stuck in a huge hospital with no friends majority of your stay. Your nurses were only with you for max ten minutes before they needed to go. You had the television, sleep, and your own nervousness.
Surgery was a big decision, so big that you even called your mom about it. You didn’t have the best relationship with your mom, so calling her was a surprise to even her. She totally didn’t bother to follow up on your life, so she never called first. But, you couldn’t go into surgery with the possibility of death and not tell her about it.
She offered to fly over and you insisted that she didn’t. So when she arrived to see you, you didn’t hesitate to give her a piece of your mind.
“What are you doing here? I told you that you didn’t need to come. Where did you find which hospital I was staying at?” You groaned into your pillow.
Your mom set her things down and crossed her legs while she took a seat across from you. “I asked the school. I’m your mother, for fucks sakes.”
“Yeah, well you didn’t think that when I was growing up, so now that I’m dying, you decide you should start caring.” You rolled your eyes at her gasp.
“How dare you say that to me? I raised you when your dad walked out on us.”
“If you think being drunk and picking me up from my after school programs means raising me, then yeah. You did great mom.” Your sarcasm came out in train wrecks when it came to your mom; she drew the worse out of you.
“(Y/N), you have cancer and you decide to let me know when you’ve already decided for surgery is not exactly the most responsible daughter thing you pride yourself to be.” She shot back.
Your nurse came in to cue that she only had 15 minutes left before she needed to leave. “It honestly didn’t cross my mind that I needed to tell you since you’ve never cared enough to call me these past years except to invite me to your stupid wedding. Might I also add that you didn’t tell me about until the day before, so that makes two of us.”
“I didn’t raise you for you to treat me like this.”
“You didn’t raise me at all, what are you saying? But how about we talk about something else, since that’s all we ever talk about. News flash, mom, I have fucking pancreatic cancer and I’m going into surgery tomorrow. I’ve been going to chemo these past three months and I have almost to no hair. My body is bruised from being poked by needles. I am dying! Thanks for even having the audacity to come see me before my maybe death tomorrow. Don’t let the door hit you in the face.” You shouted as loud as your lungs let you go.
Your door opened and you both stopped your argument to see Jennie and Jimin standing under the frame. They looked stunned and confused to see the lady who you resembled. “Did we come at a bad time?” Jimin asked.
“No, since this is your visiting time.” You crossed your arms, glaring at your mom.
“Who are you two?” She asked, rudely.
“Mom, that’s my boyfriend, Jimin and that’s my girlfriend, Jennie. Welcome to the modern society of polyamorous relationships where I love two people at once.” Jennie and Jimin have never heard such sarcasm run out of your mouth. You were always just subtle, but this side of you was new.
“Hi, it’s nice to finally meet you.” Jennie stepped forward and your mom got up.
“Well, I can see that you have a whole double life I know nothing about. I guess you don’t need me anymore. Good luck on your surgery and whatever you call a relationship.” She grabbed her things and walked past Jennie and Jimin.
“She was pleasant.” Jimin said sarcastically and you rolled over on your side.
“This is why I never brought you home with me for the holidays.” Jennie hurried to cuddle up to your side.
“At least we avoided an awkward argument over Christmas dinner.” She chuckled and kissed your ear.
Jimin sat on your opposite side. “Are you ready for tomorrow?”
Sitting up in Jennie’s arms, you buried your face in your hands. “No. I’m so scared.”
“You’re going to be fine. Jennie, Hoseok and I are going to be right outside of your door. We’re going to be with you when you’re recovering. We’re with you every step of the way, we already packed our go-bags.” Jimin tried to comfort you, but you sobbed into your hands. You couldn’t help but cry so much nowadays. Staying strong was hard when you were so vulnerable.
“And if something happens? Will you be there with me?” It was a rhetorical question that caused them to both fall silent.
“Nothing will happen. They’re highly trained professionals and I made sure you had the best surgeon in this hospital.” Jennie bragged proudly and Jimin laughed.
“Yeah, seeing her demand it was very terrifying. But, she did it. You’re in good hands, baby.” Jimin smiled and kissed the top of your head.
“Can you two just lay with me for the last couple of minutes before my nurse comes and kicks you out?” You sniffed and moved over for Jimin to join the sandwich fest.
“(Y/N), I love you so much.” Jennie and Jimin said in unison, and the unsettling feeling set back into your system.
A group of nurses and surgeons rolled you into a double door room. It was dim, except for the big spotlight that shined above you. Squinting, you saw the surgical masks that blinked back at you.
“Ready?” Your doctor was smiling behind her mask.
“No.” Your voice trembled from your nerves; your palms slick with sweat. “I want to be okay.”
“And you will be, (Y/N). We’re going to start with the anesthetics and we’ll get everything going. Relax, I’m right here.” She held onto your shaking hand and you stared back up at the bright light.
You felt the drugs enter your system, slowly stripping away your consciousness. You’ve already cried out all night your worries and said a few important goodbyes before the day arrived. The jittery feeling caused your body to shake uncontrollably and you were so terrified. This could mean recovery or death.
And while you hoped for survival, you knew the chances were split between the two options. Death was unavoidable, but to die so early shook your bones. Your dreams have just been memories of past events in your life, reminding you of the life you lived. The life you might soon leave. It was harder to ignore death than it was to wish for recovery.
Once your eyelids fell over your eyes, you’ve never felt more alone in your entire life.
“Would you stop pacing? You’ve been walking back and forth for the past two hours.” Jennie complained.
Jimin stopped in his tracks and narrowed his eyes at her, “I’m nervous.”
“What happened to ‘it’s going to be fine’ and ‘you don’t need to worry’?” Jennie laughed and Jimin rolled his eyes.
“I can’t help that my body reacts the way it does when I’m the slightest worried. How are you so calm about this? They’re literally cutting her open in that room.” Jimin gestured to the closed doors.
“By not thinking about it like that. I’m thinking about the lovely time I get to spend with my girlfriend when she’s done.” Jennie muttered.
Jimin walked up to her and pointed to his chest, “you mean my girlfriend?”
Hoseok pushed the two apart. “She’s both of your’s. Are you two done making a scene in a hospital?”
Jimin went over to sit next to Hoseok’s other side, making him stuck in the middle of a not-so-friendly feud. Even though they showed up together for visits, they were incredibly hostile to one another when they were alone.
They slept in separate beds, Jimin taking over your room and Jennie in her’s. They ate dinner with their own friends and didn’t bother to tell each other about their whereabouts. They mostly spoke to each other in scoffs or groans.
Suddenly, the hallway doors were slammed open and nurses were rushing in a big machine --- a defibrillator.
The three of them stood up, seeing how rushed and hurried the nurses looked. The surgery door opened and a surgeon walked out with sweat dripping down the side of his head. The sound of a flat line heartbeat caught the attention of Jennie.
“Her heart isn’t beating, is it?” She was afraid to hear the answer to her question, her chest rising and falling violently.
Your doctor held the door open for the other nurses and defibrillator. “Her pulse went out, but we’re doing our best. But prepare for the worse.”
Jennie collapsed onto the floor, bawling. “Holy fuck, we’re going to lose her!” She shouted with heavy tears running down her face. It was like her words pulled Jennie’s heart down to the pit of her stomach. Her whole mind and body were shutting down at the news.
“You have to stay calm, Jen.. we’re in a hospital.” Jimin tried to get her up, but she kept slipping his grasp.
“I don’t care! That’s our girl in there and her heart isn’t beating!” She exclaimed and Hoseok helped with holding her up.
Jimin’s head was in shambles, utterly speechless at what was happening. Hoseok was numb to the news, unaware to how to react. They wanted to stay optimistic, that the defibrillator will work. It had to work.
“Why don’t you two go outside and get some air? I’ll stay here for any further news. Please... it’s not a suggestion. Go.” Hoseok needed to clear them out before they both stressed him out more than he already was.
Jimin walked Jennie outside. The light breeze clearing their heavy, crazy minds. Jennie was choked up by her tears, constantly wiping at her wet cheeks. Jimin stared at the ground, listening to her sorrows. His heart too heavy to express.
“Aft-er -- everything.. --Jimin --- I’m.. really, truly sorry...--” Jennie had trouble speaking with the endless waterfalls from her eyes.
“--Jen..” Jimin barely got out.
“No.. listen to me first. I’ve felt really guilty about all the rumors. We should’ve never gotten together in the first place, especially with someone like me. I’m known as the campus hoe, right? I can’t hold onto a stable relationship even if I wanted to and now my --- girlfriend --- is-- she’s -- dying.” Jennie cried harder, holding her face in her hands as she slid against the wall and onto the ground.
“I didn’t do anything with Jisoo ever. I don’t know how many more times I need to tell you, but I would never hurt you or (Y/N) like that, especially coming from a place where that has happened to me multiple times. Maybe you’ve always secretly doubted our relationship, considering how we got together through an accidental one night stand.”
“Through our three months together, I fell head over heels for you, Jimin. I’ll admit it. I liked (Y/N) first, but you had a piece of me I didn’t think I could give to anyone after Taehyung. You’re so open, so understanding, so kind. I’ve never fully gotten the chance to explain myself because you keep shutting me down and every time, I believed that my explanation doesn’t matter. I’ve been devalued my entire life by my partners and sadly, I made myself feel that way with you when you ignored my pleads. But I think now is the best opportunity to tell you because we honestly don’t have anyone else who understands us the way we do. We’re both suffering because our girlfriend is in there not breathing. Our girlfriend, Jimin. I love you and through everything, you’re the one of the only people in this world who knows my struggles.” Jennie held him by the shoulders, so he could look her in the eyes as she gripped onto the only hope left in her life.
Jimin invited her into his arms, holding her tight. He had forgotten why he was upset before. He just wanted to be with his girls. He wished, hoped, prayed that things were back to how they were before the misfortune.
“I’m sorry for making you feel invalid. I’m sorry for hurting you the way I did.” He admitted and Jennie sobbed harder into his chest.
“It’s okay... -- we’ll --- be...”
“--- Okay?” Jimin finished off and she nodded.
You couldn’t breathe or move. Your lungs collapsed into your chest and you struggled to supply oxygen to your body. You screamed, but no noise came out and your arms were glued to your side. It was like you were trapped in a motionless body.
Everything was turning fuzzy and a white light blurred your vision. This was it. You were dying. You weren’t sure what realization hit you. Maybe it was the lost of breath and your heart rate slowly declining. Maybe it was the blinding light that caught your attention ahead.
Your memories started flashing before you. Jennie and Jimin flooding your mind. Your eyes scanned for anyone else, but them. However, you were left with scenes of your once perfect relationship.
Your first date night. It was the day you officially joined your partners. Jennie hurried you down to meet Jimin. He was cleaned up nicely, standing all cool against his sleek car. He peered up to see Jennie with the biggest smile on her small face, hand holding yours.
She told Jimin the news and he was overjoyed, ready to hold you in his arms. He rushed you into the car and it didn’t feel much different than it was when all three of you hung out. The only difference was that you’ve never been more intimate with your best friends.
Your first kiss. You anxiously sat next to Jimin on the couch during a lazy movie fest you were having with them. He had his arm wrapped around you, twirling the ends of your fingers with his. Your heart beating so fast, being not use to the touching from either of them.
He picked up your chin, knowing that you were distracted. It was an instant spark once your eyes connected and soon, your lips did as well.
Your first ‘I love you’. This moment was one of your favorites. It was Jennie’s birthday and you three were excited for the day ahead. However, a huge storm was rolling in and you were almost home. Jimin insisted in stopping to buy more snacks before rushing back.
Once you all stepped out from the convenience store, it was showering, pouring heavy amounts of rain. Jennie, you and Jimin were drenched within seconds of going outside. Your plastic bags filled up an inch with collected water. Jimin’s leather seats in his car pooled with rain. All three of you laughed with glee as you marveled the escape from the wet mess.
And you suddenly stopped to admire the way Jimin’s eyes disappeared cutely and how Jennie’s nose scrunched up, her adorable snort catching your attention. In the midst of their happiness, you blurted out, “I love you two.”
The news of your mother’s wedding. An invitation was addressed to you. It had pretty cursive handwriting and a beautiful design. It was a wedding for your mom and her boyfriend, inviting you to join them for an evening of unity. You weren’t aware of them even being engaged, let alone a marriage.
Jennie and Jimin never mentioned your mom, knowing you didn’t like pressing on too much about her. Their initial reaction was for you to go, until you explained that you didn’t even know she was getting married. You had crumpled up the invitation and threw it away in the trash.
Jennie consoled you, reassuring you that it was perfectly fine that you don’t attend. While you sulked in the living room, they approached you with the idea of still giving your mom a gift to congratulate her. It showed that you were the bigger person and that you acknowledge her efforts. They made you a better you.
Throughout every flashback, and every memory, your heart was searching for something beyond them, an image that wasn’t them. You laid there, dying, and all you saw was your girlfriend and your boyfriend. There had to be more than that and your heart was looking, waiting, for any other memories to surface.
But nothing. It was only them and you couldn’t help, but feel a little disappointed. For the last few years of your life, you’ve revolved your entire world around these two people. You’re alone, not because you’re not social, but because you chose to focus all of your efforts into your relationship. And as you slowly lost sense of your consciousness, you became regretful about how you lived.
You heard distant voices, “1, 2, 3!” and you slowly opened your eyes. There was a rush of air that filled your lungs. Your vision adjusted to the bright spotlight and the many surgical masks above you.
“She’s awake! We got her pulse!” They cheered and one of the nurses pulled down his mask.
“You’re going to be okay, Ms. (Y/N). The surgery was a success.” He smiled and you nodded, reaching for his hand to hold to make sure it was your reality.
“We’re going to move you to your recovery room now, but you did really well.” The young nurse cheered with so much excitement, there were tears in his eyes. He was a complete stranger that just saved your life, yet he was even crying for you.
“T-Than-k yo-u.” You barely made out and he patted your shoulder. You shut your eyes again and felt the bed move and the voice of Hoseok calling after you as natural light hit your eyelids.
Several hours after the surgery and going over the post-surgery care, you carefully sat up in bed. Hoseok had to leave, but the two stayed. Jennie held onto you tighly, and Jimin blinked at you with stars in his eyes. But the thought you had while you were close to death never left your mind.
“There is something I need to talk to you about.” You began, and Jimin and Jennie shared glances. “There was a lot to think about when I went under, my heart stopped for a few minutes and I was so close to my death. All I saw were our memories. I saw you two, but... something inside of me longed for something else, something more.”
“If it’s not the three of us, then I don’t want to be in an individual relationship with either of you. That would mean making me choose and I don’t love one more than the other. It’s either both of you or neither. I will always love you two with all that my heart has to offer, but my life is so valuable and I need someone who is going to recognize that. I realized that the best for us is that there simply is no us. I love you both so much, I really do, but right now is not the right time. I’ll never forget us. ”
“Jennie, you were the first girl I love. Jimin, you were the first boy I love. But throughout it all, I won’t try to remember us. Maybe we’ll realize each other’s worth once we’re ready for it and we’ll be new people when we meet again.”
Jennie didn’t let go of your hand, instead, she nodded to every single word that you poured from your heart. “If that’s what you think is the best option for us, then I’ll accept your decision.” She agreed and no longer shed any more tears. She knew it was for the better, even if it did break her heart.
With a turn of events, Jimin was actually the one crying this time. Jimin’s tears spilled down his plump, supple cheeks. It was difficult for him to talk.. it was difficult for him to express how he felt in general. “I felt so regretful because I thought I was going to lose you forever when I was ready to trade my life for your’s. I’m just happy you’re alive and breathing. I respect your decision and I think that you’ll always know what’s best for us three.”
Your heart was healing, bit by bit. The shock of almost death woke you up and you no longer wanted to be trapped in something that didn’t seem to work out well anymore. It was time for an end. It was time for change and you were more than thankful to have Jennie and Jimin, who loved you so much, they were willing to let you go and live life with no more regrets.
Jennie smiled before gently kissing your hand, “I’m unsure how long me and Jimin would’ve lasted without you, but we were two people who fell out of love for each other, but back in love through you. I want you to know that even though you felt like you didn’t belong in our relationship, you were actually the connection between us. You were the reason there was an us.”
It was an epiphany ---- you were not the outlier in the relationship. You were the core center. Jennie and Jimin were more than thankful to have you in their lives, who loved them so much, that you were willing to look past their differences and to fight through every trial.
“You were the reason there was an us.” That single line replayed in your thoughts, in a constant loop. And you smiled at Jimin and Jennie, the monitor beeping being the only noise in the room.

prologue . 01 . 02 . 03 . 04 . 05 . 06 . 07
The hospital wouldn’t let you leave. Your conditions had gotten worse and they needed you to stay in the clinic for the doctors’ to closely monitor your behavior. That meant scheduled meals, frequent chemotherapy treatments, more blood tests. Even though you did nothing at the hospital, everything made you feel extremely exhausted and your arms were bruised from the constant needles being poked into your skin.
Living at the hospital meant no more art classes or school. You couldn’t finish your college classes at your institution because you couldn’t leave. The school suggested to finish the credits through online courses, but it only caused you to lash out more. You hated what the cancer had done to your life. It robbed it. You were just existing now.
You weren’t sure if you saw Jimin and Jennie less now or before during when you all lived together. They came to see you every day, if it wasn’t the both of them, it was one of them. You also saw Jungkook and Hoseok more often as well. You weren’t alone, because everyone’s visits managed to never cross.
Hoseok came usually around the late mornings to afternoons, mainly every other day or whenever he could. Jungkook came during the evenings, when Hoseok had to leave for his classes. Jimin came around the night, staying way past visiting hours. The nurses looked at him one night crying by your bedside and knew that visiting hours didn’t apply to him. Jennie came in the early mornings until Hoseok arrived and before she left for classes. The only time Jimin and Jennie visited together is when they didn’t have classes — those days were off limits for Hoseok and Jungkook.
The only times you’re alone is between the hours of when Jimin leaves and when Jennie arrives, but Jimin waits until you fall asleep to go home. You would say that your individual relationships grew more intimate, but you were afraid of Jennie and Jimin lacking moments.
Hoseok and Jimin wouldn’t speak about their friendship to you, so you were unsure if they were even best friends anymore. You couldn’t help but feel like all of this was your fault.
Hoseok was the one who sat with you during your chemo sessions because he’s the only one who has ever seen you that valuable. You wouldn’t allow anyone else to join you on your treatments and always asked them to wait for you in the room. Those days were the hardest to get through because the nurses did a poor job at distracting you of anything.
“Hey baby,–” Jimin walked in as a nurse was helping you up from your bed. She paused and smiled at him.
“Hello Jimin.” She gleamed, almost as if she thought he called her his baby. You rolled your eyes and fidgeted to get her attention.
“Hey, I’m going to a chemo session. I’ll be back in a few—”
Jimin set his things down and helped you on your other side, “–I’ll just join you.”
You narrowed your eyes at him. “It’s okay, stay here. I tell you this every time.”
“Yeah and I listen to you every time, which I knew after the first time, I shouldn’t because you come in a crying mess after it all. I know you let Hoseok go with you, but he’s not here now. I am, so let me be there for you.” Jimin stared intensely into your glossy eyes and the nurse waited for your consent before moving you.
A switch flipped in your heart. Those annoying heavy thuds of your heart went off. The redness in your cheeks radiating. You nodded and grabbed onto him for more balance.
He rambled on about how his day went as he walked you down the hall into one of the million rooms in the hospital. The nurse strapped you up to begin your session and Jimin sat on your other side.
Your mind always whirled before it all started, never really prepared for when the needle pierced through your skin. However, Jimin didn’t let you focus too much on it. He held onto your hand so tight and squeezed it repeatedly to draw your attention back to his presence. He talked continuously, merely rambles about the most random things that he encountered when driving or on campus.
He made you feel 100 times better, even way better than when Hoseok came with you. Maybe it was the fact that he was your boyfriend, so his touch and his voice calmed your anxiety.
“You really wouldn’t believe it, but Karen is going to go to her sorority formal with Trevor even though she already promised Garret. The guy was really pissed when he found out and started to rip each other’s throats out right in front of the lecture hall. I had my money on Garret, considering the dude is yolked, and Yoongi couldn’t give two shits about the fight but I made him bet anyways. He thought Garret was going to win too, but that’s not how a bet works, y’know? We can’t bet on the same person because who would owe who the money? But he didn’t care and said that he’d buy me food either way, which is great because that would mean that I win anyways.” Jimin kept his eyes locked on yours, rubbing his knuckles softly against your cheek to soothe you. His eyes never strayed to the massive syringe in your other arm or the nurse injecting it.
At that moment, he only knew you.
And you were unsure if the pain you felt was from the chemo or the burning sensation that came from your heart.
“…so who won?” You barely peeped out and Jimin lit up with excitement, stars in his beautiful, big eyes.
“Yoongi.” Jimin smiled and you gave him a confused expression. “It turns out Yoongi and Karen were already talking and had been secretly dating this entire time. She’d been trying to get him jealous by saying yes to all those guys, so he would step up and ask her to formal. He walked right in the middle of the fight, and I thought he was going to get punched into pulp, but they both calmly stepped away as Yoongi stood in between the two buff men. He told them that neither of them were taking Karen to formal and that he was already going with her because he’s her boyfriend. They all laughed until Karen jumped into his arms and kissed him in front of everyone, yelling ‘that’s my baby!’ and Yoongi threaten to cut them open for a lab, y’know how he’s a biology major, if they didn’t both leave them alone.”
“What?” You wanted to laugh, but you weren’t suppose to move. However, hearing Jimin’s melodic chuckle made you smile. He leaned in and gave your silly, yet confused face a quick peck.
“I told you that you weren’t going to believe it.” His toothy grin brighten up the dark, gloomy session room and you didn’t regret having him there with you one bit.
“What’s Jennie doing?” You asked as you fluffed Jimin’s raven hair. He rested on your chest as you both laid in your hospital bed. The only sounds were the monitor running and the light sounds of your breathing.
“Stuck at the internship.” He mumbled into your sheets.
“Why aren’t you there?” Staring at the ceiling, the street lamps cast shadows above you as people passed by on the street.
Jimin turned, his arm placed at either side of your body. His frown caught your attention as his face inched close to yours. “I quit.”
“You what?” You said rather loudly. He put his hand over your mouth to hush you. You licked him and he giggled at your wet touch. “Jimin, I told you not change anything in your life to accommodate to me.”
“Oh, but you know I love accommodating to the love of my life. Plus, I didn’t even need it. I have other opportunities waiting for me, babe. You mean a lot more to me than an internship.” He explained.
You rolled your eyes, in a playful manner. “Well don’t go shitting on Jen.”
“Her values are different. Also, the people there are crazy about her and rave about her existence.” Jimin laughed and you cupped his squishy cheeks.
“Says the one that is also just as crazy about her.”
“But I don’t rave about her existence, that’s the difference. It’ll make her head too big and then it’ll roll right off her shoulders.” You giggled and kissed him sweetly.
“I love you. I love Jen. I love us.” You marveled and your boyfriend’s glossy eyes stared back at you. His hands held onto yours as he kissed your dainty finger tips.
“I’m sorry for everything I put you through, (Y/N). I’ve been an incredibly horrible boyfriend to you and you deserved so much more attention from me. I love you, I really do. When Jennie suggested the idea to me about bringing you into our relationship, I became hesitant because I knew I wasn’t capable of spreading my love enough for two people.” His tears ran down his round, supple face.
Jimin wouldn’t let go of your hands, so you leaned in to kiss his forehead instead. “So.. what changed?”
“You changed me, as cheesy as it sounds, (Y/N), you changed my concept of love. You were always my close friend, who I wanted to protect with my life. After you joined us, I wanted to do more than protect you. I wanted to love you and for fuck sakes, did that hit me like a truck. I was so scared of never showing you enough of how much I loved you and then my worst fears actually came true. I’m sorry, (Y/N).”
Seeing Jimin cry had been a rare sight, and you hoped to never see him cry ever again. It hurt too much to watch the pain and sadness ruin his happiness. You were speechless and felt horrible for blaming the two for your own emotions. “Don’t apologize, Jimin. Just prove it to me.”
“You fucking bet I will. I’m going to take care of you until you’re sick of me.” Jimin chuckled, his voice turning raspy as it got more into the night. He cuddled back into your side and hugged you tightly. Your eyelids fell over your tired eyes and you silently wished that you had more time to live.

18 Months Later
You walked home with groceries pulling down at your arm and droplets dribbling down your forehead. Hot days were never nice to you. Some days you’d faint unknowingly because of dehydration. Those days were the scariest.
Lately, Jimin and Jennie have been going to a lot of social events together because of their internship. Nowadays, you were often alone mentally and physically.
The year with your boyfriend and girlfriend had been amazing. You were all infatuated with each other and so in love. However, after your anniversary, things were beginning to change.
The two started to spend more alone time together due to the new internship and schedule differences. As much as they tried to remember you, they often forgot you at home, during intimate moments, and at night.
They were subconsciously squeezing you out of the equation and your differences started to surface. Jennie liked to party, you did not. Jimin liked to cuddle, you did not. You liked to sleep in, they did not. They liked to work out, you did not.
And while everyone talked out their problems, every resolution made things heavier. Kisses were empty. The sex became one-on-one, mostly being Jennie and Jimin.
The first time you discovered it without you, it broke you. The sex was not something that you all did just to get off. It was a beautiful way for all of you to connect and appreciate each other. Them singling you out made you doubt everything.
Their excuse was that it was only quick and was because one of them was sexually frustrated. That became their regular excuse.
It also didn’t help that none of your families knew about the three-way relationship. So, it meant that the holidays meant one of you weren’t invited and it was mainly you.
The neglect affected you tremendously, but you were afraid that if you spoke up that you’d lose them forever. As much as their actions hurt, they were still very special people to you.
“I’m back.” Their shoes were sprawled next to door and heard the water stop running. You eventually moved in with them so you can all be closer. However, Jennie’s bed wasn’t big enough for all three of you and there had to be a compromise. Jimin and you would switch between the guest room and Jennie’s room every night, but progressively, you ended up in the guest room to simplify things.
Jimin came from the hallway and his eyes widen at the amount of bags in your hand, “babygirl, let me get that for you.” He gathered the heavy bags and placed them in the kitchen. You slumped into your room to remove your purse and to catch your breath. Jennie walked in with her silky black robe and her hair in a towel. Her worried expression fell upon your tired face.
“Honey, you’re drenched.” She ran to grab a washcloth and sat down on your bed to help wipe the sweat from your face. She pushed your hair back gently, her eyebrows remain creased with concern. Her brown eyes scanning for any loose droplets before they landed on yours watching her.
There was a brief spark when your eyes met and the annoying thud in your chest started up. She smelled like the sweet fragrance of your body wash and her skin looked so soft. Her robe did a poor job to conceal much because she never liked to wear it properly. You hated how just looking at her made your heart race. You fought the urge to kiss her. You fought the urge to have her swim in your eyes, in your thoughts, in your heart.
“Thank you.” You said simply and grabbed her hand to stop her from proceeding any further, for making your heart pound so aggressively against your chest, for making every neglectful moment hurt more. You got up to leave the room, but her warm body hurried to stop you. Her arms wrapped you from behind and her cheek pressed against your shoulder.
“Can we talk?” Her voice was muffled by your shirt.
Jimin appeared at the door in front of you and his expression soften at the sight of how Jennie was desperately trying to hold onto you. “I need to put the groceries in the fridge.” Your voice remained blank.
“I already did that for you.” Jimin’s voice caused Jennie’s head to pop up. You had no other excuse for you to leave.
“So when did you come back?” You asked passively as the bed sank underneath your weight. The two had gone to a banquet the previous night and didn’t come home, nor did they bother to contact you about their whereabouts.
Jennie crawled up next to you, her hand intertwining with yours, her guilt seeping through her eyes that were already pleading for you to forgive her. “This morning. We saw that you were gone and we were so panicked.”
“Why?” You asked.
Jimin sighed and joined you on your other side. “We thought you packed your things and left us, completely. We were so worried and you weren’t answering your phone.”
“My phone ran out of battery, I was only going to be out for a little bit so I didn’t bother to charge it. Why would I just leave?” Confusion set as your eyes darted between your boyfriend and your girlfriend.
“Because we’ve been such horrible significant others to you.” Jennie sounded surprise to how you were unaware of their actions. “Babygirl, we leave you almost every day. We sleep in separate rooms. We don’t call you enough. We don’t have date nights anymore. We don’t fuck together anymore! If you don’t hate us, I hate us for you. We don’t deserve you.”
“You leave me because you have to, not because you want to… I hope.. and I chose to sleep in the separate rooms because your mattress isn’t big enough, sweetheart. You don’t call me and us not having date nights are because you two are busy, I get that. I just don’t have a life to keep me preoccupied, so it seems like I’m always alone. And the whole intercourse thing is whatever, I have a low libido anyways.” You explained all her points, but her cute pout stayed on her face.
“You were upset about it when you first found out we did it without you.” Jimin held onto your other hand.
“Yeah, but I got over it.” You shrugged, staring at the ground.
“But throughout all of it, you take it. You don’t complain or say anything. You just take it and I’m worried. Talk to us, (Y/N). I want you to know that we’re here for you. Everyone has a limit and we don’t want you to reach yours.” Jennie rested her head on your shoulder.
Jimin kissed your knuckles, “like she said, we don’t deserve you.”
“Sure.. I get hurt when I’m alone, but what can you guys do about it? Nothing. You’re both stuck at your internship, so me voicing things out won’t change much.”
Jimin frowned, “let us make things up to you.”
“What are you guys going to do?..” They were never up to good when their devilish smiles appeared on their faces. Jennie pulled you up and unbuttoned your jeans. “Jen!” You yelped and held onto your pants.
She chuckled and Jimin reached for a box underneath your bed. “We’re trying to get you out of these clothes, so you can get into these.” Opening the box, a neatly folded dress stared back at you.
It was a rich wine color, the color that they both said you looked the best in. Pulling the dress up, it was a soft, stretching blend. It was cinched at the waist as the bottom flared out nicely. The sweetheart cut added a sensual touch. It was truly marvelous, simple, but still marvelous.
The lingerie under the dress really got your attention. It was a matching set of lacy bra and underwear. Rubbing the crimson fabric between your fingers, the material felt expensive and very sturdy.
“I’ll draw you a bath and when you come out, you can try it on.” Jimin gave your arms a small squeeze before walking into the bathroom.
“We’ll make sure we’ll be there to watch.” Jennie winked and picked up your chin. “Then, we can go out for dinner. I made reservations at your favorite place.”
The happiness filled every crevice in your body, causing you to explode into tears. “You guys don’t have to do this for me. I don’t need this.”
“We want to.” She kissed your wet cheeks.
“Princess, we don’t do this enough. We should be doing this everyday for you, not once in a blue moon.” Jimin hugged you from behind and kissed the top of your head. “Don’t cry.. the fact that you’re crying makes me feel worse because you should be use to the love we show, but you’re still surprised at everything. We’re doing such a bad job at this, so this is our apology.”
“Come on, the water is going to get cold.” Jennie pulled you into the bathroom and helped you out of your clothes. She placed the dress and the lingerie against the door. Your girlfriend gave you a small kiss on your forehead before lightly closing the door.
“I don’t think it looks right on me.” Your head peeked from around the bathroom door and your lovers shared a similar gaze.
“Babygirl, let us see.” Jimin leaned coolly against the adjacent wall. Jennie was eager to push the door further to see more of her beautiful girl.
“Is it suppose to make my butt look big?” Still hiding behind the door, your averted eyes and shy pout made them chuckle sweetly.
“Your butt is already big on it’s own, kitten.” Jennie smiled and winked at Jimin, who nodded in agreement.
You took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom. Jimin sucked in his breath at how the lace hugged your curves. Jennie’s eyes widen at how the fabric wasn’t covering as much as it should. The pink warmth danced across your cheeks as you felt their eyes travel to all the exposed parts of your body.
You’ve been naked plenty of times in front of them, but to be in sexy lingerie was a different story. Jimin cleared his throat and peered over at his other girlfriend, who couldn’t keep her eyes off of you. He laughed, and closed her mouth for her by pushing her chin up. “You’ll catch flies, babe.”
“Sorry–I’m – Jimin, just look – that’s our baby! Do you see her?! Like all of her?” Jennie tripped over her words as she gestured to your stunning appearance.
You fiddled with your thumbs, “it barely covers my ass…”
“Oh you know we gotta see that.” Jennie blurted out before Jimin playfully slapped her arm.
“Give us a twirl, sweetcheeks.” Jimin suggested and watched you with dark pools flooding his eyes.
You spun around slowly, “Oh my god, (Y/N).. we might have to skip the dinner and just go straight for dessert.” Jimin choked.
You turned your head to look at their faces, and while they tried to look at your face, they were too busy gawking at something else. “..does it look okay on me?”
“Stunning.. absolutely breathtaking.” Jennie covered her hot cheeks.
“Are you kidding me? (Y/N), you look perfect.” Jimin couldn’t hold back from touching you any longer. He wrapped his arms around your torso, his hands roaming over your smooth, hot skin. His mouth sucking softly at your neck.
His hands traveled down your stomach to the waistband of the underwear, abruptly shoving it off your hips. “Okay! No more..” You laughed and gently pushed him off. His face filled with disappointment. “We’re going to dinner.”
“You’re such a tease, baby.” Jennie chuckled and kissed at the hickey Jimin left you.
“She just knows how to play her cards.” Jimin watched you with hungry eyes, but he remained off of you. Slipping on the dress, you took their breath away once again.
“I’m so lucky..” Jennie whispered as you touched up your make up. “..to have such a beautiful girlfriend.”
“Can you guys stop staring me down for three seconds and go change?” You laughed at your statues and they both rolled their eyes before proceeding to change.
“How did you manage to book this place?” You played with the pasta on your plate.
“I have my connections.” Jimin cleared his throat, cutting his steak with the lightest glide.
“Plus, you’re special. They know us.” Jennie smiled and fed you a piece of her ravioli. All three of you always ordered the same things at your favorite restaurant. It became your fancier spots to go to when you all came to be one.
“How’s the food?” The chef came out to greet you all, a towel thrown on his shoulder.
Jimin smiled and beckoned his fork, “delicious as usual.”
“What’s the special night?”
Jennie and Jimin exchanged glances, and they both swallowed hard. Jennie’s fake smile plastered uncomfortably on her face, “it’s to appreciate our girl tonight.”
“We’ve been gone for so long, it was time to reconnect with our beautiful girlfriend.” Jimin reached over to hold your hand, his being much colder than usual.
“Young love, it’s great. Wish me and my wife still had that. Enjoy the food and I hope to see you for your birthday.” He tapped your nose and you nodded.
Jennie darted towards Jimin with large worried eyes. “Birthday.” She mouthed discreetly.
Jimin’s head fell back in frustration. “Can we talk, Jen?” He got up and Jennie looked over at you with a sad expression.
“Don’t worry about it, baby. It’s nothing bad.” She said, but her voice was laced with absolute concern.
Your head rested on your palm, afraid of knowing, yet growing tired of understanding. “Don’t be surprised if I’m gone before you two are back.” You sighed sarcastically.
“You won’t.” Jennie pushed in her chair and hurried after Jimin to the front door.
“I might.” You shrugged, knowing that she was too far to hear. Your phone buzzed, the reminder of your next doctor’s appointment in the next couple of days.
You’ve been feeling really weak lately. It takes you forever to walk up the stairs and you’ve been fainting a lot more frequently. At random points, you’d get excruciating pain in upper abdomen that goes into your back. You called your doctor about your weird symptoms, and she wanted you to come in immediately.
While she sounded anxious, you didn’t really bother to care. You also kept it from Jennie and Jimin, you didn’t want them to freak out. Their lives were on a raising path and they’d drop everything in a heartbeat to care for you, even when you had the common flu. It was probably nothing major anyways.
“Is something wrong?” You asked, not looking up from your full plate of food.
“Nothing is wrong.” Jennie aggressively pulled out her chair.
“Are you not hungry?” Jimin asked and you looked up to see how upset they both seemed.
“Not really. I haven’t had an appetite in a while.” You wiped your mouth of any extra sauce and grabbed your things. “I’ll wait for you in the car.”
Jimin paused before handing you the car keys, a sigh escaping his plump lips. You walked out of the restaurant and hurried to the empty vehicle. You sat in the back because it was usually Jennie and Jimin who sat together. His hand resting on her thigh. Their delicate voices harmoniously mixing with one another. Jennie’s dreamy stares. Jimin’s intense focus. It was always them.
You closed your eyes for a while, waiting. Contemplating. You didn’t want to leave them, everything felt wrong without them there.
The door opened at your side and Jennie joined you in the back. “Hey baby.” She cooed softly.
You rolled your eyes, ignoring her.
“Why are you upset?” Jennie’s smooth hand rubbed your exposed thigh.
“Because I thought we were in a relationship.” You crossed your arms.
“We are.” Jimin opened the door right on cue. It was never fun when arguments became 2 to 1.
“So why are you keeping secrets from me? Why the fuck do you two always do this to me? You’ve always been great at it before we were together, and I never called you out on it because – I guess – I didn’t have the right to know. But I’m your girlfriend now. I thought we’d stop the childish hiding.” You groaned, almost moaning the last part when Jennie pressed you through your panties.
“We’ll tell you tonight.” Jennie was mesmerized by what was between your thighs. Jimin’s eyes darted from his middle mirror back to the front.
“You two are not doing this right now.” Jimin groaned, frustrated that he wasn’t allowed any piece of the action.
“Just drive, babe. The more you talk the less you’ll get to experience it.” Jennie stared you down with beautiful, hypnotizing eyes. Her fingers rubbing aggressively against your lingerie.
Any other time, you would’ve stopped her. But they haven’t been intimate with you for an incredibly long time. The sensations felt too good, that you had forgotten how nice it felt. “Jen.. I’m – uh - suppose to be – angry at – you —mmhm – two!” Your head fell back in the seat, her hand spreading your legs wider.
“Let’s fuck out your anger, babygirl.” She batted her long, heavy eyelashes at you. Her slender fingers slipping into your underwear, coating them in your juices. “Or let Jimin and I make it up to you.” She stuck two fingers in you, drinking in your gasps.
“I hate this..” Jimin groaned as he kept trying to peek at the back.
“Focus on driving, Jimin.” Jennie laughed.
“I can’t when I can hear my babygirl moaning like that.” You blushed at his comment and Jennie kissed each blossoming cheek.
“She liked that.” Jennie winked at you and you leaned over to kiss her gently.
“I like the both of you.” You smiled, Jennie removed her fingers. She licked them, and hummed sweetly.
“How are you still the cutest person even when I had my fingers shoved inside of you?” She giggled, pushing you back onto the cushion. She moved your panties to the side, and kissed your clit.
“Baby!” You yelped, static running down your arms and legs. Her tongue being super soft and warm. You being wet. She knew all the right spots of pleasure. You loved when Jennie ate you out because she could relate to which places felt best. Jimin was great at it too, but not knowing the secret spots.
Her mouth was buried into your pussy, devouring your sensitive bud. Her tongue fitting into your tight hole, feeling it swirl and dip in. Your back arched up, everything taking over your tiny body.
“Okay, we’re home now. You two can stop.” Jimin rolled his eyes as the car came to a halt.
Your clit popped right out of Jennie’s mouth, her chin glistening. She fixed your underwear and helped you up. Pulling her in, your lips attacked her’s passionately. She pushed you away softly, chuckling in the process. “I know you’re eager, but Jimin just washed the car.”
“Thank babe. Can we hurry? It’s getting cold. I want to get upstairs as fast as possible.” Jimin whined as he escorted you and Jennie from his sleek, black Mercedes.
“We all know you’re not cold.” Jennie intertwined your fingers with hers.
“Yeah, okay. I want to fuck the shit out of my lovely girlfriends, is that bad?” Jimin wrapped his with your other free hand.
“Patience is key.”
“We’re taking the elevator, I’m done with patience.” Jimin pressed the golden button until one of the doors open and hurriedly pulled you and Jennie inside.
Jimin gently pushed you onto the bed, leaning down to give you inconsistent kisses. You wanted to grab his chiseled face, he didn't allow it. He kept pulling and teasing. Smirking and playing.
"Give her a real kiss, Jimin." Jennie laughed and Jimin listened. His lips were graciously waltzing with your own. His hands were roaming up and down your body, trying to push your dress up. Jimin pulled away and came face to face with your clothed privates.
You were preoccupied by Jennie and how sensual her panties fell from her legs. You heard a ripping noise and you peered down to see the culprit at hand. Jimin was tearing your sweet lace that they bought you, "I liked those..."
"We'll get you another one, honey." He kissed your inner thighs and dove in for a few licks.
"Come here.." You gestured to the naked Jennie, who was rubbing herself to the sight of her boyfriend and girlfriend enjoying themselves. She sat on top of your face, her being already soaked.
You sucked at her clit until she started to grip onto your hair. "Fuck.. That's -- I forget how good you are at this, (Y/N)."
Jimin poked at your entrance, catching you off guard. He entered, slow at first because he knew you had to adjust. His length filled you up impressively, and Jennie leaned down to smack your hard clit. Her tongue traced around your hood before she dove straight for the exposed bud.
“.. this..” Jimin huffed, grabbing your hips aggressively as he began pounding into you, “.. is so hot..”
“You say that every time we all fuck.” You hummed against Jennie and she moaned back to the vibrations.
“Because it never fails to astonish me.” He groaned, his hips gyrating to the point where your skin was tender from the friction. “How good you feel. How much you both turn me on. How beautiful our love is for each other.”
Jimin often spoke a lot during sex. The more he talked, the faster he pounded. The less coherent he was, the closer he was to his high. He had so much love to vocalize and Jennie was a little more of the dominate keen. You were always their precious princess that they needed to please.
“Baby, you’re getting me soft.” Jennie said with a small smile and gave Jimin a small peck. “I love the both of you.” She moaned and planted her hands on Jimin’s ass. She pulled him closer to you, and you felt more stuffed than ever.
She gripped his firm cheeks as she was peaking her high. Hooking onto her thighs, you made sure to keep the same pace as you were before. “Oh kitten, I’m cumming--” Her eyes were closed, breathless as she was. Her back arched, yet she remained holding on.
Her hips were grinding on your face as she cried out, a volcano erupting inside of her. Her tight ball coming undone. You sucked and licked so hard that it was hurting your jaw, but you wanted to milk everything out of her, until she reached her limits.
Her whines become more high pitched as she begged to get off of your face, but you kept her down. Jimin went quicker with the help of Jennie guiding him. “You mean so much to me.. I’m.. wow .. just, -- who would’ve thought -- “
“Baby, okay! I can’t take it anymore.” Jennie chuckled, needing to catch her breath as her legs quivered and squeezed next to your head. She had to push you away and you let go, knowing that she wouldn’t stop shaking for a while.
She kissed your plump, wet lips and brushed away the hair that stuck to your face. “I love you, I love you.”
“Babygirl, you feel--” Jimin gave several final thrusts and Jennie rubbed you in the processes. Her warm fingers caused your back to come off of the bed and your bubble to pop.
“I’m cumming, baby!” You screamed and held onto Jennie’s free hand as she soaked in your weak expression, as it contoured in ecstasy. Jimin kissed up your neck as you squeezed around him.
“Me --” Jimin began, and his final slam caused you to shift upward onto the bed, “--too.”
“That was beautiful.” Jennie smiled and kissed your’s and Jimin’s cheeks. “It’s always the best to watch the final climax.”
“Let’s get you cleaned up, okay?” Jimin helped you off the bed and your legs almost broke down.
You wobbled to the bathroom with the support from your boyfriend. “I love you.” You smiled, unaware of what consequences were going to follow later into the night.
“So this.. secret.. that you two were going to tell me..” You started your sentence as Jennie played with your silky bath robe. Her eyes peered up, panicked, and Jimin caught her expression. “What is it?”
“It’s nothing bad.” Jennie sat up on the mattress that you had managed to fit. Her lights were off and after care was always a big thing for the three of you.
Jimin got up too, his face showing signs of distress. “We’re going away.”
“What?” You asked, anger boiling in your system.
“It’s for our internship. We’re leaving tomorrow afternoon.” Jimin was blunt with the truth.
“For.. how long?” You avoided eye contact, knowing how they were looking at you with their puppy dog eyes. Their innocent, loving eyes.
“For a week.” Jennie wasn’t saying anything, because she knew that she was going to break down. It was your birthday this week and they were going to miss it.
“So.. you spent this entire day with me.. not because you wanted to appreciate me, but because you wanted to pamper me up to tell me bad news?” You got up from the bed to head to the guest room.
Jennie held onto your wrist to stop you, “we did it because we didn’t want you to feel more hurt than you already were. We knew how much we left you, so we thought that we would spend this entire day to make things up for this week.”
You peeled her tight fingers off, “how long were you aware of this trip?”
Jimin and Jennie shared shameful eye contact, and Jimin sighed, “four days ago.”
“So... both of you knew for four days that you were going on a week long trip and didn’t bother to tell me until the day before you two leave? I’m not even mad that you’re missing my birthday, I’m upset because you had so much time to tell me.” You ran into the guest room and locked them out. Their loud footsteps stopped at your door and Jennie’s voice was quivering.
“We were scared that you’d resent us and we’d feel guilty, then end up deciding not to go.”
“When have I ever stopped you two from doing anything?” Hot tears stained your cheeks as you sat with your back against the door. “It’s not the best feeling in the world knowing that you don’t fit into something. That you’re the odd one out. The one left behind. I want to belong in this relationship too.”
“And you do. We love you, (Y/N).” Jimin desperately tried to console you.
“It’s getting harder to believe.” Sniffling, you crawled into your empty bed. Jennie and Jimin’s shadows remained pacing outside.
“Please open up, baby.” Jennie was sobbing, her tears dripping onto the floor.
“You should go to bed, I wouldn’t want you two to miss your flight tomorrow.” Your hit the pillow softly, soaking the cloth with sorrow.
“We’re going to Las Vegas, we’re not flying.” Jimin said and you rolled your eyes.
“I honestly don’t care where you two go at this point!” You shouted, streams falling faster. “I -- let me -- I just want to be alone tonight.”
“I’m sorry, (Y/N). Please don’t be mad at us, we need you, darling.” Jimin whispered, taking over the conversation due to Jennie’s heavy sobs.
You shut them out, not wanting to hear anymore of what they had to say. Closing your eyes, you wondered how everything had gone so terribly wrong. How you started to lose them. How you became the outlier.

prologue . 01 . 02 . 03
You stripped out of your clothes as your doctor had prompted you to slip into a thin paper gown. You kicked your legs, waiting for her to come back. The room was filled with cotton swabs, cotton balls, cotton pads, popsicle sticks, everything that a doctor would probably use.
It was your third time back within the week. The first was to speak on your symptoms. The second was the draw blood to get it tested. The third was the final check up. You were beginning to become very afraid of what the issue was.
Jennie and Jimin didn't bother to call you while they were gone. Jennie didn't post on her social media of the great time they were having. It was almost like they fell off the face of the Earth. You were too stubborn to call them first. It was your pride on the line. You wanted them to know how it felt to be ignored, neglected, forgotten.
“I have terrible news.” Your doctor walked in and she looked as if she had aged ten more years. Her grip on her manila folders were tight and her eyes blinked with concern.
There was a slight drop in your stomach, like your heart detached and fell into an empty pit. Your palms were slicked with sweat as you tried your best to remain calm. “There is a possibility that you may have cancer.”
“C-Cancer?” It shocked you more hearing you say it. “I have cancer?”
“It’s not for certain, but your blood tests showed quite alarming results. We’ll run some CT scans to see for sure.” Your doctor jotted down a few notes and had you quickly follow her into another corridor in the clinic.
“Today?” The news wasn’t processing in your head. It didn’t quite make sense.
“Right now. Unless you’ll like to schedule another appointment.” She looked as if something was in grave danger. Your family was plagued with cancer, but many of them survived. You hoped you were one of them, that or it was a simple mix up in the machine. You genuinely didn’t believe the strain could’ve been passed down, at least, not an intense strain.
“Alright.” You laid down on the slick platform as your doctor hooked up you quickly, but meticulously.
“Take a deep breath. It will only take a second.” A small smile appeared on her face before it reverted back to concern. Your gut feeling was telling you that it wasn’t going to be good news.
When you got home, the empty feeling grew bigger than before. The tears did not stop from streaming down your face on your way home. Your bag landed somewhere in the corner of the living room as you ran into Jennie’s neat bed.
It still smelled like them. Sobbing into their sheets, you missed having them around. You wished they were here to comfort you. You needed them, more than they ever needed you. Tossing and turning, everything felt restless... fake almost.
It must have been hours of you crying and staring up at the ceiling. Every blink felt sore. Your eyelids felt heavy, but you couldn’t sleep. You were afraid of the darkness. of the loneliness. of death.
You contemplated every single moment in your life as the sun set, and Jennie’s room turned into a heavy, navy blue. You haven’t touched your phone since you came home and the silent device lit up like a lighthouse.
You had 5 missed calls from Jimin and 3 from Jennie. The notification bar was filled with several texts from your message app and from Snapchat from both of them. “Hel-”
“(Y/N)! Are you okay?” Jimin sounded incredibly panicked over the phone.
“She picked up? Thank god, hand me the phone.” Jennie’s voice can be heard in the background, equally concern. “(Y/N), why weren’t you answering the phone?”
“I-I-” you couldn’t find your voice. All the hours of crying made your throat dry and hoarse. “I-I’m sorry.”
“Oh my god, (Y/N).. is someone else there? Are you cheating on us?” The hurt in Jennie’s voice made your heart pang. She had trust issues due to past relationships. She has never been a relationship where her significant other hasn’t cheated on her, which is why you were not surprised that she could be wondering that.
“No--- Jen -- I’m not. There’s no one here.” It sounded worse saying it aloud, into the darkness. “I’m sorry for not picking up, my phone was on silent and I was taking a nap.” You lied. “What’s wrong? Why did you guys call me so much?”
You were on speaker, your voice echoing a little in the back. “We felt like something was wrong and wanted to check up on you. Are you still upset?”
You hesitated before you answered, “no. I’m not upset. You guys were trying to put a band-aid before the wound gashed open, I get it. But next time, don’t shower me with a date, just straight up tell me so we can have multiple dates instead.” Hearing their sweet voices made you realize that you missed them more than you could imagine. You wanted them back.
“Happy birthday, baby.” Jimin smiled into the phone.
“Wish we were there.” Jennie spoke right after.
“Thanks.” You tried to wipe the quiet tears that stained Jennie’s pillow. “I love you.” Your voice cracked halfway through and you hung up before they could respond. Everything hurt as timed ticked by.
Jennie and Jimin were always together and you were always alone. But for once in your life, you wanted to be selfish and greedy. You wanted them to stay and be with you. You wanted them to drop their internship and love you.
Curling up into your girlfriend’s blankets, you replayed the moment your doctor’s face contoured into a frown and the next words determined the rest of your life, “I’m sorry, but... there is a tumor growing in your pancreas..”
The next couple of lines were a messy blur. You asked her, “will I be okay?”
She let out a heavy sigh, “pancreatic cancer has a very low survival rate. I’d give it three and a half months for untreated cancer. Eight for treated cancer.”
“So I should start writing my will now, huh?” You joked, but that’s when everything in your life spiraled. That was when the tears slipped quickly out from your eyes. That was when the fear ran down across your bones. I’m going to fucking die.
You kept your cancer a secret from Jimin and Jennie. It was only best to tell them when they were ready for it. They were so busy with their own lives that they didn’t need the mess of your’s, but you couldn’t help the burning feeling of wishing them to come back.
Emotional support was what your doctor recommended, but your support system was all the way in Vegas. You didn’t have much friends because college was mainly an individual venture. People usually went to class and left, no room for socialization.
Your friends were Jennie’s or Jimin’s friends. You had acquaintances from art class, but you never really enjoyed spending time with them. You reserved your time for your boyfriend and girlfriend, since you all never really had much to spend.
The more you thought about your life, the more you regretted not doing a lot of things. You regretted not going to prom, not going for your scholarship in a prestigious college, not going to your mother’s wedding with her new boyfriend. There was a tremendous amount of resentment in your life and you were miserable.
But you remembered the better times --- when Jennie and Jimin pushed every horrible moment away. They were your foundation and lifted you when you were going to give up. They motivated you to sign up for art class. They got you to send gifts to your mom to congratulate her for her wedding. They supported your decision to decline a chance to study abroad.
You genuinely loved them. They were going to be the hardest to let go. The ones that you’d fight to wait for. The ones you love the most. Your last sight, you wanted it to be them. Thinking about dying made your chest feel suffocated, like the thought grew hands and pushed down so hard that your ribs cracked.
Reaching over for your phone, you dialed Hoseok’s number. Hoseok was Jimin’s friend from dance class. He was the closest to Jimin next to you and Jennie. He was an absolute sunshine and had a smile that lit up every room. He was easy to speak to, which is why you called him out of everyone else you knew.
“(Y/N)? Hey, what’s up?” You could tell he was confused to why you were calling him. You two never really spoke much, not unless if Jimin was there.
“Hey Hoseok. Is now not a good time?” You sniffed.
“No, I’m just at the studio. Is everything okay?”
You sighed into the receiver, “Jimin and Jennie are away at Vegas right now, so I’m alone. I’m going through somethings right now and I just really need someone here with me.”
“Have you tried calling Jennie or Jimin?”
“I can’t tell them what’s going on.” You answered quickly and Hoseok paused. A foolish feeling filled your system and you were ready to hang up. It was stupid to bother Hoseok because you couldn’t speak to your own lovers about your problems. You had to go to their friends, who you probably made super uncomfortable. “Sorry, Hoseok. This was so random and weird. Forget everything I said.”
“Wait, (Y/N). I’m here for you. I’ll be there in a few.” He said before hanging up.
Getting up, you figured it was best that the first time you see Hoseok in two months wasn’t you with tear stained cheeks. When it got dark in Jennie’s apartment, it got extremely dark. You couldn’t differentiate what were rooms and what were walls. However, you didn’t turn on the lights because you were afraid of seeing your pathetic expression in the mirror.
You changed into more comfortable clothing --- Jimin’s shirt and your shorts. Your wet hair clung to your face and you tried your best to scoop up every strand into a messy bun. The cold water from the running facet cooled you down and you wiped the rest on a random soft cloth.
A small knock startled you and Hoseok had the biggest, warmest smile when you opened the door. He held bags of takeout boxes in his hands and you blinked curiously at him. “Hey (Y/N). I brought some food, I figured you haven’t eaten yet.”
Once he said that, the same burning feeling in your chest returned and tears cascaded down your freshly-clean cheeks. An evident frown appeared on his face and he drew you in for a hug. “What’s happening? Why are you so upset?”
“It’s my birthday.” That wasn’t the real reason why you were crying. It wasn’t because you were a year older. It was because you weren’t going to live past it.
“I’m sure they didn’t mean to leave you on your birthday....” Hoseok’s warm hand rubbed your shaking body. “I know Jimin would’ve done anything to see his girlfriend smile on her birthday, not crying.”
“It’s not just that, Hoseok.” You pulled away, your puffy eyes saw how his face soften. “I’m dying.”
“You’re-- (Y/N)-- you’re what?” You welcomed him into the apartment and his shaky hands opened the takeout boxes for you two to eat. You sat across from him on the large dining table, violently crying.
“I have cancer, Hoseok.” The words sounded like breaking glass, sharp and sudden. Fragile and piercing.
A gasp filled the room and his mouth gaped open. His eyebrows knitted at the center, “are you sure?”
You nodded, “I went to the doctor’s three times to figure out what the fuck was wrong with me. I have a tumor growing in my pancreas. Before you know it, my eyes are going to turn yellow.”
“Maybe you’ll make it. I know there is a quite big survival rate for cancer..” Hoseok wasn’t sure what he was saying. He merely wanted to cheer you up, look on the better side of things.
You shook your head and swallowed the lump on your throat, “three months for untreated pancreatic cancer. Eight for treated. Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest survival rates. 20% live past a year. That’s not going to be me.”
“What if that is?!” Hoseok gripped onto your hands tightly, tears spilling from his eyes. You were confused as to why he was crying too.
“I’m not that lucky, Hobi.” Reaching over, you wiped his sadness with your palm. “Why are you crying for me? We barely know each other.”
“I’m crying because I know how much Jimin loves you. You make his world go round, you and Jen. You two mean the stars and the moon to him. It breaks my heart knowing that he’s going to lose you. It’ll break him.”
“Silly boy.” You whispered. “They’ll get over it once I’m gone.” His cheek rested in your hand.
“Then why are you keeping this a secret?” Your arm dropped.
“Because, they get to keep secrets from me, so why can’t I have my own secret?” You shrugged.
“What’s the real reason?” It didn’t help how Hoseok seemed to know you like the back of his hand.
“I’m trying to stall the painful moments and prolong the ignorant bliss.”
Hoseok laid in your bed with you, talking about almost everything. While he was Jimin’s best friend, he soon became yours. You asked him to stay the night and he happily obliged.
He showered and warmth of his body relaxed your own. Having another human presence really comforted you. “You have to promise me you won’t spill it to Jimin. You owe that little to me.”
“It wouldn’t be my place to tell. How long do you plan on keeping it from them?” The wind shook the branches outside, casting witch-like shadows on your bedroom floor.
“If I had the choice, forever, but that’s not fair to them.” You rolled over and grabbed your phone. Your home screen was a cute candid photo of the three of you. Jennie’s beautiful smile rested on her small face. Jimin’s eyes disappeared, his head falling back where his neck was exposed. You staring at them with intense, loving eyes. It was the perfect moment captured at the perfect time.
It was the day of your one year anniversary. It two weeks after you and Jimin moved into Jennie’s apartment officially. She made it a big deal to cook breakfast for you two one day. However, you woke up earlier than those two and whipped up a batch of fresh, steaming pancakes before they stumbled out with tired eyes.
It was mainly improvising that day. You all three dressed up rather nicely and hopped into Jimin’s car, wasted a half of tank of gas driving absolutely nowhere. It was a spontaneous rendezvous with the ones you loved.
You ate ice cream at a popular ice cream joint and Jennie had it all over her face. You shared messy, sweet kisses as the sun set at the foreign place you guys ended up at. And you swear to god that you’ve never found a love that splendid.
Jimin had asked a passing stranger to help take a photo of you three in front of a marvelous fountain, but Jimin almost fell in and both you and Jennie had to hold on before the young boy hit the water. The stranger handed back the phone, unaware that that wasn’t the photo you were intending to take, but Jimin thanked her anyways. He swiped to see what horrid picture she could’ve taken, but to your surprise, it was the perfect capture.
That was before the two were preoccupied by their internship. It was before the cancer, the whispers behind closed doors, the sex without the other.
“I’ll tell them when they get back.” You answered Hoseok’s question after much silence.
Hoseok shifted around in the bed and his soft voice filled the vacant air, “also, happy birthday, (Y/N).”
“thank you, Hoseok...” You sighed, “... for just everything.”
