The Nebraska Democratic Party chairman called Thursday for the firing of the Douglas County election commissioner over recent actions to close polling places and an erroneous mailing to north Omaha voters.
Vic Covalt said Dave Phipps, a Republican, should be removed by Gov. Dave Heineman.
Phipps announced plans in February to close about half of the polling places in Douglas County. He also knowingly sent out voting cards listing the wrong polling place to 2,000 north Omaha residents.
