So I live in Arizona and I’m registered as a democrat, got my primary ballot, filled it out, sent it back and it’s been accepted, no problem.
My husband is registered as Independent, but almost always votes democrat. Since AZ is a swing state, and independent voters can request either parties ballot, he requested a republican primary ballot, that way we could have a say in the primaries for both parties (for the democrat party with my ballot, for the republican party with his).
And I don’t know if it’s just AZ, but it feels like the republicans only run extreme candidates. I see a lot of moderate democrats, as well as progressives and politicians more to the left, but basically every far right republican candidate in a contested race was running against another far right republican candidate.
The lack of political diversity in the Republican Party is going to end up being their downfall, especially as Trump’s approval rating continues plummeting. In a state like AZ, independent voters will typically go for more moderate candidates, rather than people on the far left or right.
