his fingers went up to his neck, remembering the night before and the blossoming hickey that presented itself on his skin. his mind slightly panicked but he merely smiled nervously. there was no way of hiding it or taking it as something else. “i…uh nothing. i mean, i must have gotten hurt or something.” it wasn’t the fact it was a hickey, it was the fact it was a hickey that SHE hadn’t given him.

        the uncertainty in his voice rings loud and clear in her ears                                  --- the telltale of his lie.    she wouldn’t have cared as much if he’d just admitted the truth to her.    it’s not like what he did with other women mattered. he was merely a    friend to her -- or at least that’s what she’d attempt to convince herself    each and every time she questioned the intensity of her feelings towards    him. but that’s all they were. friends. and from the little that she knew about    friendships, she was certain that they weren’t supposed to lie to each other. 

   she’s still staring at it now, the purpley mark on his skin, and perhaps her    annoyance is mixed with a hint of jealously. and maybe a part of her wishes    that she could pepper his skin in such a way, but even so, she’s still pissed    that he wouldn’t tell her the real origin of the bruise.
