some ppl interpret liko’s parents as somewhat neglectful because of how little they directly appear in her story and how often she seems to handle stuff on her own. lucca(her mother) is usually busy with work and even when liko returns home to paldea she isn’t there to greet her, which makes her feel distant especially to the viewers.

alex(her father) does show concern for her safety, but most of the time his support is just worrying or accepting things rather than active involvement in her life/decisions. (also he didn’t know about the pendant leading her on the adventure??)

instead of guiding or being at least semi-present in her daily life, he allows her to continue traveling with the rvt despite the dangers which some fans see as him stepping back rather than protecting her (but i don’t see this one because it’s pokémon. like we got 9 year olds in the elite 4 and 10 year olds going on whole ass adventures the day they turn 10)

liko is also sent to school far from home and the people who take on the roles of mentoring/protecting her are not her parents, but friede, the rvt, and diana(her grandmother). even though her parents clearly DO love her and have hired/arranged protection for her their physical absence and small influence in her journey give the impression that they are more distant than the other parental figures in horizons, which has led to discussions about whether their behavior could be seen as neglectful or just a narrative choice to highlight liko’s independence.
