What does Jynx have to do with the BLM movement?! ⁣ ⁣ Firstly, I can’t tell you how much fun it was to become Jynx for the makeup Collab last week! It was fun to get creative with the makeup. ⁣ ⁣ Secondly, did you know that originally, the Pokémon Jynx had dark shadowed black skin? The creators changed it to purple because when it was black it so closely resembled blackface from minstrel shows. ⁣ ⁣ I discovered that fact ^ in my makeup research. And I’m SO glad they changed it. ⁣ ⁣ It’s so important to be aware of your cultural impact - even if it’s unintentional - and change and become BETTER. ⁣ ⁣ We need to normalize saying sorry and changing things. So as much as I love Pokemon, I always want to try and do makeup versions of them, but as they’re cartoon characters, their designs can come across too basic or too complex. So I tried to pick a middle ground and went for Zeraora aka THUNDERCAT!!! 😸⚡️ Symmetry is not my strong point as my face is no way symmetrical... so after many wipe offs and re-applications, I managed to finally get a decent matchup!
