Hello Tumblr! This is a new blog I am starting because I am very normal about the world of Pokémon. I am looking to create full taxonomical classifications of every single one of the present 1025 (and counting) Pokémon based on real-world taxonomical principles.

I never felt strongly about a lot of gym leaders as a kid (did like a few though) but as I got older and realized I am in fact, a man who likes men, I had more to be interested in but even then that was less towards the gym leaders and more towards other characters. I sadly can’t pick an all time fav but I can list off the ones I like!

I know even as a kid I really liked Brock, nowadays the whole anime trope of “guy harasses women and that’s his personality” is really annoying to me but I appreciate Brock a lot (in the indigo league at least) when he’s not being like that. He feels like a super cool older brother to Ash in the anime and unlike a lot of the pokémon characters I can’t really separate Brock from his anime appearance.

I also really like the trio of first gym leaders from Black and White, had a big crush on them as a younger teen, mainly Cress

Unfortunately with Bug being my favorite type a lot of the bug gym leaders out there aren’t very remarkable to me. :(

Ooh I also do like Whitney though, she’s fun even if she is annoying to both fight and be around, and the old man grass gym leader from Kalos is charming, I like the kindly old man character archetype

I think SWSH was when I really started caring about gym leaders majorly. maybe it’s just because I’m playing these games as an older guy, and as a kid I cared more about the Pokémon than anything else and barely payed attention to anything the human characters had to say, but even replaying the games now I just don’t see as much personality in gym leaders before SWSH (though this could be because I didn’t watch the anime past Indigo?). I do love the trial captains a lot too but they’re not gym leaders so I’m not counting them—

Man I don’t know though… I have so many legends that I like or that stick out to me, but none I could really consider favs? I just have a bunch of “big likes“ lol!

I really like Articuno and Lunala for being super pretty, Latios has always been a legend I’ve had a soft spot for being the first legend I’ve ever shiny hunted (and got in under 30 SRs in B2W2 to boot!), speaking of Black and White I find Reshiram gorgeous, and hm…
