I just explored my thought process on why I enjoy GASP song titles so much and I thought I'd post it here as well.
There is a congruency, I feel, in the way GASP title their works with my process. Not so much puns, more so an enthrallment in how statements can be abstracted and deconstructed. Then expounding on the new mysteries created through that reconstruction. You know, like "what strange context/appearance would this have if it was completely literal?" The mystification is what excites me the most!
Let me walk through my thought process.
"Eating the Translucent Old Folk's Village." Ok. The sound of the track is a first clue. The song has many ghostly voices, manipulated samples. The quality and timbre of these voices feels especially aged, probably coming from older people.
There are multiple of these ghostly voices. Where would you find many old people? A retirement home. Then you can abstract it. If you exacerbate age, it becomes closer to "history." When you think of a historic place with "old homes" you would likely think of a Village.
When you think of a ghost, you typically imagine them being translucent. When a building is comprised of ghosts, it's described as "Haunted." A populated building, such as an old folk's home, likely would have so many ghosts that you could consider the place to be more ghost than building. So, the building is practically a ghost in of itself!
As for "Eating," there is a understood relation with eating as "Consumption" or "Intake." Exploring or being in the presence of a location is, in a way, a consumption of information and feelings. "Eating" is feeling, growth, and being.
So I reinterpret "Eating the Translucent Old Folk's Village" as coming from, "Inside of a Haunted Retirement Home."
