Emma Vanity was eleven years old and entered the Hogwarts Express for the first time. She was not scared. She knew who she was. She was Emma Persephone Vanity, the first and the only born of Miss Aphrodite Binshart Vanity and Mister Otranto Cassius Vanity. She selected a compartment and opened up the passenger carriageâs doors up wide. She smiled brightly as she looked at each student in turn.
One was a mousey boy with a mess of brown hair and he was clearly rather shy, he weakly grinned at Emma.
The girl next to him was rather tall, blonde hair trailed down her back in two long braids it looked as if she had been laughing before Emma opened the door and she held her hand to her mouth as if embarrassed to forget that she was nervous.
The next boy had round face and glasses, he seemed the most relaxed out of the four smiling faces and he had a calmer expression on but a small smile still directed towards her.
And besides him was a rather small girl, with red hair and freckles who seemed rather friendly and seemed anxious to talk.
The last boy however, had been the most interesting to Emma for she could only see his hair, which was dirty blond, and the obstruction of his face was because he was reading a book and was clearly rather captivated by it seeing as he seemed nonplussed by not only Emmaâs entrance but the whole scene to unfold next.
They all looked about Emmaâs age, all ready to begin their journey to Hogwarts and none of them yet changed into their school robes.
She held the doors open wide and didnât fully come in.
âIf you are a mudblood, please leave now!â She said this brightly and almost as if it was a childrenâs rhyme, her voice sung the words.
The once happy expressions changed to confusion on the four faces until the round face boy jump up, his hand pointing at Emma. Angrily as if he was accusing her of something. âThat is a naughty word that youâre not allowed to use!âÂ
Emma gave a soft chuckle. âWell I know that youâre not going to be sorted into my house so you can also leave. Goodbye.â she said, waving goodbye as he hastily exited, fuming but clearly not sure what else he could do. Emma waited patiently until he left and she turned back to the other four.
âYou there,â she said, pointing to the blonde haired girl. âWhat house was your mother in?â
âPardon?â She asked, clearly nervous. Fiddling with the braids in her hand.
âYou look pretty scared, so what house was your mother sorted into? Hufflepuff?â Emma asked, waiting for her answer.
She looked confused at Emma. âNo my mother didnât go to Hogwarts.â
âWhat?â She asked. âAre you foreign or a mudblood?â The only two reasons she could fathom why her mother wouldnât have went to Hogwarts. She had almost gone to Durmstrang herself though but her parents favored their alma mater.
âOh.â The girl said. Clearly under stress on what to say. âIâm not sure how to answer. Iâm the first wizard in my family.â
Emma held a look of disdain and it was clearly evident on her face. âEw. Gross! Get out!â
âWait, why?â The girl asked anxiously. Probably thinking now she was in the wrong carriage. Emma didnât enjoy mudbloods, obviously, but she also didnât enjoy anxious people. She thought everything should be planned out. Â
Emma gave a dramatic sigh. âMother says that if you breathe around me, Iâd get ill. Please leave.â Emphasizing the word mother and elongating the word breathe. She put her hand to her head as if to feign sickness.
The blonde apologized profusely and left still in a confused state.
âAnd you. What house do you think youâll be sorted into?â Emma said, turning her attention to the red head girl.
The red head girl pointed to herself as if asking if Emma was talking to her when Emma just continued staring the girl answered. âOh uh âŚ. Iâm actually in Hufflepuff.â
Emma rolled her eyes. âOh are you now? Youâre a second year? Because you look like youâre nine years old. I suggest you find another cabin.â Emmaâs stare was relentless and soon she left too. She was clearly miffed but Emma presence was too dominating and the girl was clearly not welcomed.
She turned to the final boy who didnât look her in the eye. His timid smile gone replaced with a frown of uncertainty but not sadness. Â âAnd you. Whatâs your favorite Quidditch Team?â
âMerlinâs beard! Your favorite teams, then. Do you have more than one? Thatâs my issue too.â Â Emma asked quickly going from annoyance to excitement.
âI uhâŚâ He seemed afraid to answer. âI actually donât know what Quaidish is?â
Emma rolled her eyes and sighed this time. âAnother mudblood, off with you!â Emma said pinching the bridge of her nose. âI think I feel a nose bleed coming, I donât know if I can stand whatever illness youâre going to give me.â She said, fanning herself with her other hand. The boy gathered his things and left quickly and when the door shut behind him, Emma moved in and turned towards the final boy. He was reading a thick leather bound novel, one way beyond his reading level. âI could actually handle sickness you know. I have a superior body and immune system.â
But the boy kept reading and ignoring her.
âYouâre not a mudblood are you? I can tell. Mother says Iâm a rather good judge of character.â
Still he did not look up.
âExcuse me.â Emma said, tilting her head at the boy. What could he not hear her?
âExcuse me!â She said a bit louder putting her hands on her hips. âIâm talking to you!â She said exasperated. But the only reaction she got from him was him looking up and giving a rather convincing death glare directed at her. She smiled brightly. She had seen him before! He was a pureblood, she knew it. She took a seat next to him even though the whole compartment was empty.
âHey! I recall you from the snowflake masquerade symphony of two years ago that my mother hosted. Hm.â She studied him carefully. â Remind me of your name again? Peter Rosa? Â No no I saw you with Bella and her sisters. Uh, Rosier, right? Your mother gave me a snowflake tiara that day. Â I didnât much enjoy it but mother says I have to be grateful for whatever I get from people of good blood. Youâll never know whoâll youâll end up marrying.â Emma shrugged happily. The whole little speech said in bright and chipper matter. âAnyway, You must know who I am?â
She was still smiling when he gave a small sigh and he shut his book tightly and looked over to her for the first time.
âMiss Vanity.â He said, nodding a small polite smile at his lips.
Emma clapped her hands in excitement. âI knew youâd knowme! I knew someone would recognize me! Not everyone will be of filthy blood here.â Her smile widen as she held out her hand for him.
âIâm Emma Vanity, A pleasure to make youâre acquaintance.âÂ
He took her hand and shook it. âYes you got my name, Evan Rosier. Ah but the pleasure is all mine.â
Emma smiled sweetly at him and turned her body more towards him.
âSo are you planning to join the Quidditch team? I want to be a Keeper but I can play any position. I just really just hope I can be Captain.âÂ
