“Perhaps it only seemingly sent me to the same spot.” He muttered under his breath. He dug his hands deeper into the pockets of his lab coat and looked up at the sky. “The odds are nearly impossible, but maybe the two ends of the portal were just so close together it only seemed like I-” The rest of his sentence died on his tongue as his eyes drifted downwards.

An icy chill gripped him despite the summer sun and he stopped in his tracks. His breath caught in his throat. He wasn't sure if his heart was racing or if it had simply stopped. In fact, in that brief moment he felt he knew nothing at all. He stood, frozen, as a familiar, musical laugh filled his ears. Finally, he exhaled, and a soft, strangled noise escaped him. What he was seeing couldn't be real. She couldn't be real, and yet... There she was. Sam Manson. There. Alive. Laughing and looking the same as she had the last day he saw her.
