Inspiration
One of my favorite sources for inspiration is a collection of vintage annuals from my prep school that my father acquired more than 20 years ago. He found a nearly complete set of yearbooks, which range from 1895 through 1936, at an estate sale of a local druggist in Watertown. The druggist had advertised in the pages of the yearbooks from the beginning of The Taft School's tenure in our town and had received a copy of each book when it was printed. This collection provides a fascinating look into high school through those years and the changes, not only in the size and facilities of the school, but the fashions of the day.
One of my favorite shots is from the 1929 Annual; a group shot of the captains of the minor sports.
It's interesting to see that basketball and hockey, two of the major sports today, were considered 'minor' back in 1929. While others, i.e. the gun team, are unfortunately gone completely from the world of today's prep schools.
