I've been rereading the animorphs series, and I wanted your thoughts on something. How different do you think the series would have gone if it had been written in the 2010s instead of the 90's-early 2000s?
âMarco, Iâm not sure about this-ââDO IT FOR THE VINE, AXâ
forreal tho, thereâs the obvious difference in like, pop culture references and the technology available. plotlines concerning modern technology and things would definitely have occurred, but overall not effect the plot a great deal.i also like to think, especially concerning applegrantâs mutual desire to have explored those things in the books when they could have, things like racial and sexuality and gender diversity and ableism would have been better or more obviously handled. like, maybe be a lil more forthcoming about axâs human morph not being white for one thing lol. the berensons being more explicitly jewish besides a single line, marcoâs ethnicity being described in less dated, vague terms. and things like explicitly canon bisexual (and trans if i wanna get greedy) marco, the other animorphs or side characters being lgbt. mertil and gafinilan could FINALLY be mates instead of âreally good friends.â (i have heard great things about grantâs Gone series wrt: LGBT representation. so one can only assume that would translate to how a modern animorphs series would be written.) also, the andalites not being quite so bizarrely sexist. like theyâre aliens. cmon. they can be a morally grey race of douchebags for other reasons that arenât so exhausting to read about. there were a lot of tropes used that are tired now but werenât at the time animorphs was written, so in a modern series i think theyâd be avoided.thatâs all for things specifically that i think could be be changed with modern advantages and social climate!
happy birthday!!! i hope it was a good one <:
Iâve had better, but it wasnât bad.
Thanks
plumedruler replied to your post: Playing Skyrim as a blind character more like...
I do the same thing, but with a deaf character! I have the game muted. It adds a bit of challenge, since you dont hear wolves or anything coming. Also i became the Listener.. my deaf character was the Listener.
Thatâs some irony for you I guess!
Realistically I canât turn off my computer monitor and play since to me thatâs not immersion, but plain silliness. Turning off your sound, yeah - but Skyrim is a hugely sight-oriented game. Since my character is a mage I simply decided that she finds her way around with magic (clairvoyance is a spell in canon!!! It doesnât have to be a light, it can be sound too Iâd think). She also has a follower who will probably tell her âuh, youâre walking right into a pack of wolvesâ.
But I really like her and also loudly proclaiming âI CANâT SEEâ to anyone who asks me to look at something. Sort of like Toph from A:tLA, people seem to forget sheâs blind (but perhaps wearing a hood all the time doesnât help). My friends certainly got a kick out of it anyway. My throat did not.
I like to think that perhaps the reason she got caught on the border in the first place is because sheâs fucking blind and didnât know she was trying to cross the border. Borders donât really exist when you canât tell where they are spatially!!
((her name is Theresa, after the blind woman in the Fable series and sheâs a Breton))
