I wake up and apparently my brain has been processing stuff because I start thinking about Kiseki: Dear to Me and the text that Ai Di got about Zong Yi's injury in prison.

And then it hits me: the Fan family is not just some rival gang; it's the family of Ze Rui! WHAAAAT. So here's my theory in light of this (probably ridiculously late compared to the rest of you) realization: Ze Rui is trying to be a gangster because his family are actually criminals themselves. Also, Ze Rui is faking the amnesia so he can find (and presumably punish) whoever's responsible for hurting his man.

For those who have been watching, the plot centers around a mysterious "home movie" whose focus is on a girl who seems almost identical to a girl who just started at the high school the rest of the protagonists have been attending.
