let’s brainstorm a plot!!
ok so i’ve been in a mood to write and original story lately, and i came up with this list of characters that i adore, but i suck at making plots! so i thought i’d turn to you guys!!

the winters in minnesota are NOT cozy. theyre rough and frozen, especially in the north. i lived there and we got stuck in the polar vortex and it was -20 plus a wind chill, so i couldnt even walk to get food.
oh shit that sounds too rough for what i’m thinkin gakhfgaakndfha i’m so sorry that sucks.
the mental picture is brown, dead grass. everything is frozen in frost. there’s no snow, it’s dry and cold so that everything chaps. there’s a thin layer of ice on the streams that breaks from the slightest pressure and turns to slush. mittens, big coats, seeing your breath in front of you. idek if this is a real thing (spoiled cali girl here) but if it is, any ideas where that would be??

honestly even looking up "plots for fanfictions" isnt like cheating??? its just feeding you ideas to inspire the one you want for this. as long as its all your words, its not copying. you can always cite funny quotes obviously but thats what makes it grab the readers attention, ya feel????

Murder mystery anon here: I def think the murderer would still have to be alive and probs a prominent figure in the town like the mayor or the sheriff so that's why it's been covered up so well for so long and why the kids are the ones who finally solve it! Maybe the murder happened because someone found out about something illegal the murderer was doing and that would also raise the stakes for the kids when they solve it if the murderer tried to have them killed too

what i usually do to think of a plot is go through shows on netflix i like! i dont copy them but ill take traits of a character or the plot of a general situation and try to prolong it. so lets say like teen wolf — two boys find a dead body in the woods and just go on from there. you need to build it up but i always write down stuff i DEFINITELY want to happen to and place it where i want (like beginning, middle, end) sometimes when you start typing, something pops up! hope this helped (-:
ahhhh this is actually super helpful thank you!! i do that thing where i think of certain scenes i want in the plot, but i don’t know how they fit it or what, so that’s kinda why i went to my followers. thank you, i’ll definitely do some digging for inspo!!

Where does the story take place, maybe using an urban legend or myth from that area could help?
i actually came up with a fake town called “kinderhook” in the US but i have no idea what state to put it in!! somewhere pretty temperate is where i’m thinking, where the winters are hard and crisp as opposed to snowy and cozy. anyone have any idea of where in the US that would fit??

Maybe some more variation in age ? Also going more into character building , what can you do with each archetype to make them unique? What twist or spin will you have for each character? As for character development/ interactions how does each member of the group add or subtract to the group? What is the relationship between each character?
i’m pretty set w what i want to do w my characters, and i’m not worried about that as much, i mostly just don’t have any ideas for plot ideas!!
