Taavi woke slowly, blinking the sleep from his eyes. The air in his small tent felt stifling, if it wasn't for the relentless rain all night he would have slept outside. He much preferred laying out under the stars.
He sat up and pushed open the front of his tent, stepping out into the early morning sun and froze.
Yukina stood just a few feet from Taavi's tent, a smile on his face as he regarded Taavi.
Taavi wasn't in the mood for polite conversation, "When you ambushed Mahanon that day, were you going to kill him?" Taavi demanded.
The smile fell from Yukina's face, "Straight to business I guess?"
Taavi crossed his arms over his chest, "Well?"
"So it is true then? You and the Inquisitor?" Yukina's face was blank but Taavi knew his brother well, and he was not happy.
"Are you out of your mind?" Yukina snapped.
"Excuse me? What about you!" Taavi yelled.
Yukina took a steadying breath, "There is alot you don't understand Taavi, and there is so much I want to tell you, but I can't unless you come with me." He took a few careful steps towards Taavi, "You deserve better, you're too good for him."
"This isn't about who I'm seeing Yukina, you just- you just left," Taavi's voice broke and tears flooded his vision "and I thought you were dead." He sobbed.
Arms went around him and squeezed him tight, Taavi slumped against him and wrapped his arms around Yukina in turn.
"I know, I'm so sorry. I don't expect your forgiveness and I do want to explain but." Yukina trailed off.
Taavi pulled back and wiped his eyes, "But you won't explain unless I go with you,and Vesryn? How did you convince him?" Taavi asked.
"It wasn't difficult, not after he knew the Inquisitor was a target." Yukina answered.
Taavi felt numb. What possible set of circumstances had landed him here. Vesryn wanted Mahanon dead, so did Yukina and all the possibly the entirety of whatever group he was apart of.
But this was a reconnaissance mission, and Taavi needed to pull himself together.
"Vesryn seemed worried about another elf, one that was with you, who is he talking about?"
"You aren't in any danger from him Taavi." Yukina said.
"I'm not but Mahanon is I suppose?"
"You won't tell me anything then?"
Taavi laughed, "How can I make a decision with no information?"
"You could trust me." Yukina said.
"Trust you? After what you've done? Leaving me, letting me think you were dead. All this shady business you won't tell me anything about, I'll never trust you again!"
"No! No I won't go with you!" Taavi could feel the anger flushing his face and his hands were shaking, "If you aren't going to tell me anything then we're done talking. You should leave."
"Alright Taavi, I'll go. Please, just think about what you're doing. Mahanon is dangerous, be careful. I will see you again."
Yukina smiled sadly and turned to leave.
"Yukina." Taavi stared as his brother turned back to face him, "If you want Mahanon, you'll have to go through me."
Yukina regarded Taavi carefully before nodding, "Understood."
