On a totally random thought, I don’t think they kept this in the aired pilot for MacGyver, but for the unaired one, Mac was a prisoner escaped on his own from the Taliban. I kind of wonder if Peter Lenkov liked the idea so much that he kept it for Magnum?
But also, I can just imagine:
