we differ once more here, cause i believe there is a sentience behind sburb. there is a genuine desire to see life thrive instead of just existing as the same monotonous shape, otherwise it'd just continue the trend of destroy a planet (and have the carapacians re-seed it) to make a new frog. so it gives the players and species the universe makes free will to grow and fail. though it does generally stack the deck in the player's favor (and punish players who do not learn) because otherwise that'd cut into its first motive.
but thats also the horror behind sburb. because you have a diety who, while somewhat kind, has absolutely no humanity behind it. it claps with joy at you trying to defy it, or being horrified of it, because thats proof that it truly made you alive. especially that first thing, cause don't worry rose, it planned for you to defy it, and accommodations just for you.
(i swear i will get to my point about carapacians soon. i just really needed to get out the horror of a stage being enthralled with its actors.)
I love that concept! Again, not my personal theory, but sburb being obsessed with players like theyre an odd bug is highly compelling. There is nothing the bug can do to make its situation better. It can only sit and hope that the one who keeps it in its jar lets it back outside instead of squishing it, or worse, feeding it to their lizard.
One could het a lot of mileage out of that last sentence, by the way. A perfectly horrific situation.
