I need some puppy nipping tips
My very first puppy I'm training is a 6-month-old Heeler. Super smart boy but super high-energy. His owner is a self-professed couch potato and they have an older Chihuahua in the house. Her parents aren't thrilled with the new puppy and she said they may make her find him a new home if he doesn't improve soon. Talk about pressure. x.x
He's picking up on everything incredibly well (she taught him Sit and Shake before they even signed up for class) but you can't even pet him without him turning on your hands to chew them. They don't play hand games at home and I told her to look into getting food puzzle toys and doggie day camps to get some of that extra energy out (and learn from other dogs that biting is a no-no.)
I'm worried that doing the high-pitched yelping will just stir him up even more. Anything more than eye contact and a very calm and low 'good boy' gets him bouncing all over the place. Should I tell her to stop giving him treats from her hand so he doesn't get the chance to bite them during training? Or would a bitter spray be the better choice?
