âMistletoe: the creepiest of all holiday traditions.â Quentin mumbled to himself, a little upset at the predicament he was caught in. Above him was the culprit: a mistletoe. Beside him was a fellow victim: some girl Quentin had never met before.Â
Quentin didnât understand the tradition surrounding the mistletoe. It raised a ton of questions that no one, be it in person or in a book, could properly explain to Quentin in a way he would understand. Now that he was stuck under one, he really didnât understand the tradition. It was awkward.
The girl he was with seemed very indifferent to the whole situation. In a way, that made the whole thing worse. Did she want to kiss? Was she just as reluctant as him? Did she even notice? Was there an easy way out of this situation? What was her name?Â
âListen.â He began, trying (and failing) to hide how anxious he was by rambling and hoping it would lead to a way out. âI donât know you, but you canât be that bad. What I do know is that everybody makes mistakes. Right now, Iâm going to help you avoid a big one. You donât...â Quentin paused, gesturing at the mistletoe and then at his lips. âYou donât want to do this. Cause youâre like...and Iâm...ya see...â Quentin began to stumble over his words as he tried to verbalize his thoughts as to why they shouldnât kiss.
âYou can do better than me, and the whole tradition is dumb and misconstrued from its original meaning.â
