Planar reflections for water puddles
Creating a reflective surface for i.e. water puddles. Easy! At least that’s what I thought. For some reason I expected a little specular would be sufficient for a reflective surface, but I was wrong. The weird thing is; creating a reflective sphere is a lot easier than creating a reflective surface.
I found out these specific reflections are called Planar Reflections and luckily there is a demo made by Unity which contains what I needed. The Adam Demo contains a shader that will make it possible to create planar reflections. This is the shader on Github. Currently there is little to no interaction between the character and the water puddle, one of the next steps is creating water splash and wet step particle systems.
