(HERE IT IS! THE ENDING! THANKS FOR READING!!!)
Astrid in his gentle radiance, smiles softly in relief seeing his dear friend Marian alive and well. Even if it’s a dream, her presence here means she’s asleep elsewhere. He feels terribly guilty for nearly sucking out all her magic during the Earth God fight. He apologizes humbly for putting her through so much by just being near the guy. Including keeping the weakened Astirov company while he took his sweet time getting here. He retreads the fact this state was a result of Astrid himself eating his elder sibling and consuming all his magic. He assures Marian she doesn’t have to forgive or pity the man. He admits he wouldn’t either. Glosses over that for now to express his true feelings. He’s extremely grateful for all she’s gone through with him. The perceptive lass cuts him off by asking him if he’s leaving. He tries to redirect the conversation yet, she isn’t having it.
Astrid lets out an exasperated sigh in defeat as he’s forced to confess that he must leave Hylum once he’s finished detoxifying it. He solemnly explains that he’ll be reduced to a greatly weakened state and that him sticking around would only cause trouble in the future. He doesn’t want to burden anyone, especially Marian. His curt friend shushes him gently as she advises him to pour some grace onto himself.
Secondly, she brings up the fact that he has people who might be really worried about his sudden disappearance. The somewhat melancholy man had made his peace with Lord Phos and the others under his lord’s employ before coming here. He seems really broken up about it despite trying his best to hide his true emotions. He asks her not to be sad that he’s leaving. He’s not dying, he just can’t be in Hylum for a long time.
Astirov is brought up and his fate seems to be tied to his brothers. Astrid feels responsible for him since he made him so small. The sentiment may go deeper yet he refuses to elaborate further. He also says it’ll make things easier for Marian and Lady Catherine to move on. An uncomfortable silence overpowers the scene. Without words or warning, Marian acts out selfishly as she embraces the surprised godling. She kisses him on the lips without thinking, letting her emotions and desires take the helm. Astirov tries to cut in only to be told to shut up. Once she breaks it, she starts to fade from this dreamy realm. Astrid assures her that they’ll meet again. She joyfully smiles with tears in her eyes.
“Thank you so much for being a friend...”
Like that, the dream comes to a close as Marian is hugged by her now overbearing older sister. Turns out, the young maiden was in a coma for a long time. It’d be about a year before Marian set off again. In the meantime, Hylum slowly rebuilt itself into a new normal. People come and go, things get settled and we all move on.
Fast forwarding a bit, Marian sits alone late at night by the candle’s fading light. She’s writing down her recollections of this long, and strange tale. Entering from the snowy outdoors, her dear friend Astrid frets over her health when he realizes she’s still up. She quietly teases him as he makes a big fuss over it. The two have to be careful as to not wake up the sleeping idiot Astirov. The exhausted godling sinks into his embrace of his dear companion. With that, all seems right with the world...
