30 May 2015
Hello friends
As promised, here is the recap of the the first two days.
Thursday, May 28: Iāll start from where I made my last blog post from, Fiumicino International Airport. I boarded the plane as usual but it was unfortunately delayed by about 75 minutes. In the big picture, thatās not a very long delay; but regardless, itās still annoying. I arrived in Catania and was met by my host brother, Stefano, and host mum, Alessandra. From there we drove to Siracusa and the entire time I was gleaming, inside and out. It was such an incredible feeling driving past and seeing all the places that I had seen everyday, just 2.5 years ago. We had to run a few errands during the evening and then returned home around 20:15 (8:15pm) to eat. We had spaghetti with tomato, zucchini, shrimp, and oil. It was freaking amazing! That night I unpacked my bags and wrote (A LOT). I went to bed around 01:30
Friday, May 29: I started the day by waking at around 09:00 (trying to beat the jet lag) and ate breakfast. Around 10:00 my host mum returned home and we went out to run some errands. We got my cell phone connected and working with Italian towers so that was a good start considering I hadnāt had any contact with friends or family in over half a day. (Did you worry about me?) That was my first time riding in Sicilian traffic in over two years (to make things better I was on a scooter) so while it took some readjustments, it was a lot of fun. I love crazy traffic! We returned home shortly after and had lunch: potatoes, sausage, and salad. Che buono! After lunch I went to Ortigia, the oldest part of the city, to see/meet a new friend. Her name is Brooke and sheās the Rotary exchange student in Siracusa this year. We went to a bar, talked for a while, had a drink, and then walked around Ortigia. It was pretty surreal seeing my favorite places in the city once again. I even found a few new shops, maybe Iāll buy some gifts from there and bring them back to America?Ā Anyhow, I returned home and stayed there for a few hours before going out and seeing my best Italian friend, Fabiana, and her boyfriend, Emanuele. We ate pizzolo together and it was also very, very good. I returned home and here I am - writing this post. Excuse me for any errors, itās very late and Iām still feeling the jet lag.
I donāt think Iām going to have a boring day this summer; I have a lot of people to catch up with and places I want to see. It should be a summer to remember!
Take care
Andrew
p.s. Also excuse me for my grammar/sentence structure/wordage because Iām already thinking in Italian once again. I noticed that while FaceTiming with a friend that I want to respond in Italian. Oooooops!
What the fuck is a Pizzolo
