Samsung SUR40
If i said Microsoft Surface you probably think of one of these:
But before Microsoft made a Windows tablet called Surface, they made a Windows table called Surface.
Well, it ran Windows under the hood but it wasn’t intended to be used like a PC. Its main input method was a touchscreen on the surface of the table. It was aimed at businesses to use in customer service environments. The cool part of the surface table was how the touchscreen worked. It didn’t work by touch, but with infra-red cameras. It also could tell when objects were placed on it with RFID.
The SUR40 was the second generation, manufactured by Samsung using Microsoft’s tech. When the Surface brand was reused for their line of tablets the table and the technology powering it were renamed PixelSense.
Unlike most of the stuff on Legacy Boot, this we did resell, so some people out there do have a use for these things. (P.S. Those legs you can see in the top image are removable)
skip to 15 seconds into the video for a demo of the PixelSense camera tech in the SUR40:
