welp, this was the last in the queue so I could really use some more! If you'd like one of your own, consider donating to my ko-fi!
PISSF****T
In Disco Elysium, there is one single word that gets censored. Due to it having an F at the start and a T at the end - many are lead to believe it's the f-slur, and in rare cases the actual f-slur is actually pronounced instead of being censored. But here's the thing - the actual f-slur isn't the only f-slur in Disco Elysium. So then what the fuck is the other f-slur?? I'm writing this shit at 1 AM and trying to hold back stream of consciousness, but my personal lead and best guess as to what this "other" f-slur in-game is the following: There's a leather jacket with a particular text on the back - which is illegible in-game, of which the internal ID is actually "jacket_pissflaubert". The item's actual name is censored in-game. If you have no clue who Gustave Flaubert is, I will not blame you.
From what I gather trying not to fall asleep and skimming Wikipedia dot com the online encyclopedia anyone can edit, Flaubert took a himbo approach to life while being exceptionally meticulous about the written word: one of the major advocates for literary realism - which is a genre that attempts to represent subject-matter truthfully, avoiding speculative fiction and supernatural elements.
PS. He's French. Maybe with that small blurb, it might dawn on you why it's intensely fucking funny that not only is his name considered a slur, it's the only term in Disco Elysium that's actively censored.
Flaubert is so on the nose that it's insulting to the game, it's writing and its entire setting to simply just name-drop the guy.
God, I love Disco Elysium.
Bonus: here's a portrait of the guy by Eugène Giraud:
I bet he'd look great with The Expression.
