The Accident (Part 4 of the Otto x Oc x Rosie fic)
Again, I own not the Octavius’s. They are Marvels. I only own Lucy and her peers. Enjoy!
A few weeks after the threats, seven late nights & eight days later, it was ready. The gossip at school would be over, and she’d be done being his assistant with this “personal project”. It was finally time to bring Rosalie Octavius back to the world of the living. It all made Lucy’s stomach turn.
With her brother Tristan being a necromancer, she new a few things about the dead; as well as what comes with bringing them back to the world. She did try to warn Otto.
“It won’t be her.” She tried over and over to explain this to him, “It’ll look like her, walk, talk and even smell like her. But it won’t be her.”
“What are you talking about?” He looks up from the calculations.
“Somethings going to attach to her. That something is going to meaner and have the control of some dark power.”
He stares at her, “Demons? Really? Lucy, this is science. Not witchcraft.”
She puffs her cheeks, “Otto, I’m serious. You’re trying to play god, and these are the possible consequences.”
Otto gives her a hard look, “I don’t miscalculate.” He heads over to the machine, “Everything is ready, and we are doing this TONIGHT.”
She sighs. He was stubborn about this, but she nods and get him his goggles. He takes them and heads over to Rosie.
“Ms. Lucy, hold on tight.” He already had the actuators on, adjusting gages.
Lucy steps back adjusting her own goggles. She holds her breath until Otto gives the signal to her.
It was time to flip the switch.
Bright, blinding light filled the space. The heat is almost searing. Lucy had to cover her face. There’s now a screeching surrounding them.
She can’t tell if it’s from the corpse…or the falling metal.
In a blast of adrenaline, she runs out of the way some falling debris. She hears Otto shouting ‘Get Out!’ while metal and dust whip around her.
Coughing up a lung, she’s able to see the damage from outside. Half of the buildings windows have been blown out and a portion of the roof collapsed. From her place at the door, she can hear a faint moaning.
“Dr. Octavius? DR. OCTAVIUS!” She screams as she fishes her phone out from her jeans, “Otto, just hang on!” There’s no way she can get to him. Not without exposing herself, “I’m calling for help!”
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“Hello? I need- oh my gods- I need an ambulance!”
“Miss are you the one hurt?”
“No, it’s not for me, it’s for my teacher.”
“Ok ma’am, can you get to your teacher?”
“I can’t, there’s too much debris.”
“Ma’am, that’s ok, what’s your location?”
“2007 Manhattan Way. It’s on the pier.”
“Alright, are you hurt at all? What happened?”
“The building collapsed. I got out, but I swallowed a lot of dust.”
“Ok, stay on the line with me. We have a car and medical on the way.”
“Thank for your time and statement Ms….Dal a Pointy?”
“de La Pointe.” She sighs from her hospital bed at the officer. He nods with a sympathetic smile.
“Is there anything else you need from me?”
He shakes his head, “No, if we do we know how to get ahold of you.” He packs away his pen and notes, “Let’s hope the good doctor has a speedy recovery.”
Lucy nods as he and a few curious rescuers leave the room. She plops back into the pillow with another sigh.
Tanya was going to strangle her.
Otto was currently in another room. The blast had cause an electric surge in a loose cable. If it had stayed on any longer he would have been electrocuted.
From what she heard (using a very small bit of magic), the actuators had fused to his spine.
If he survived, her firey roommate might strangle him too.
Almost on cue, she can hear Tanya’s twang and cowboy boots coming up the hallway.
“Oh, good you’re ok.” The blonde smashes Lucy with bone crushing hug.
Tears now sting Lucy’s eyes. She didn’t want to admit it, but before this, she felt something for him. A protective sort of feeling. It was the only reason for the late nights and the following.
It only got amplified over the corse of the project.
Hugging her roommate while he waited for surgery made this whole thing feel like it was all her fault.
“I could have got him out. I should have-“
“Uh-uh, no. No.” Tanya wiped her face, “We ain’t doin’ that. You would have been exposed and it would have been…the incident all over again. You did good by calling him in, ok?”
“You wanna see him? Even after all of this?”
The red head nods and tied to hold back her tears. Tanya sadly smiles, “He’s two rooms down. I’ll finish the discharge stuff. Say what you need.”
Lucy pulls out of the bed, a tired smile faintly there, “You’re a good friend. Thank you.”
“Damn right, I’m your best friend and don’t you forget it.” She playfully smiles in an attempt to light up the mood.
She’s pointed in the direction of Ottos room. Holding herself on the door frame is what keeps her knees from buckling. The actuators where on various pullers and hooks. Otto himself was on his side. A bandage covers his eyes. The machine beeps to track his heart rate.
By the looks of it he’s heavily sedated.
By some miracle, she makes it to his side without collapsing.
“Otto.” She whispers, “Otto…I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.” She chokes, “We’re ok. We’re gonna be ok. You’re gonna be ok.” She kisses his forehead. There was a small spark of magic that went into it.
“I…I love you.” She whispers before leaving the room, a nurse ushering her out then shooing away the loitering security guard.
Tanya collects her as the guard watches on.
“Look, if you’re gonna tear me-“
“Nope. Not gonna do that at all.” Tanya stops her, “Not after something like this. You wanna put it behind you and so do I.”
Lucy understands what she means.
“Yeah. Yeah, that sounds good.”
“Ok, c’mon honey bee.” The friends wrap an arm over each other as they exit the hospital.
