We did it!

Lift-off was a bit rough but we survived. I could see that the warehouse was on fire and remember thinking “o well, we’re not going to need it anymore anyway”. I looked over at Piotrek, I’ve never seen him smile and laugh this much.

Piotrek got quiet when we reached the highest point far above the tree tops. In the few seconds we were up there I could see the look in his face an artist has when they finish a masterpiece. He was proud of himself. The view from the window was breath-taking. Whether this succeeded or not, that made it all worth it.

The shuttle landed in a field close to a nearby village. I jumped out pulling Piotrek with me. I danced for the first time in twenty years, tears were streaming down my face and I hugged Piotrek in celebration. We made our way to the village hoping to get a word out about the situation and start again.

Found this journal again during clean-up of the shop. Made me all nostalgic and wanting to write again.

We were met with a warm welcome in the village and told everyone what was happening in the forest. A relief effort was set up to rescue everyone trapped inside.

Piotrek and I stayed in the village and Piotrek eventually started his own mechanic shop. I help him from time to time but I’ve become too old for any heavy lifting. I mostly spend my days feeding birds and keeping Piotrek company in his shop.
