52. Your muse tells mine their dark secret.
(yes he’s working at the gas-n-sip post-panem lol)
“Cas I gotta talk to you,” Jesse said nervously once he’d gotten to the front of the line where his friend worked. Castiel could tell from Jesse’s manner that it was somewhat urgent, so he went ahead and took his break. Heading towards where he usually sat during his breaks, Jesse caught up to him. “Um, is there anywhere more private?”
He squinted at him a bit, but nodded all the same. They wound up outside closer to the where the dumpster for the Gas-N-Sip was kept, thankfully upwind. “What is it, Jesse?”
“You were asking what I’d been doing since the Rebellion ended and…I wasn’t completely honest. But the more I thought about it, I figured maybe you’d want a piece of the action.” So Jesse proceeded to describe an elaborate system for selling drugs that he and his “boys” had put in place, and as time went on the furrow in Cas’ brow became deeper.
Finally, Jesse was done. “So what d’you say?”
Cas shook his head a bit. “What do I say to what?”
“Do you want in or not, man?”
Cas looked at him like he had three heads. “Why would I want in on drugs, Jesse? I just got out of one war zone–why would I want to possibly be involved in another? Why would you?”
“Y’know, it may be drugs Cas, but it’d be better than this shit job you have now,” he said honestly with a shrug. “At least there’d be some dignity–You’re some almighty powerful wizard dude..and you’re wearing a vest. You’re better than this!”
“Do you know how dangerous this is?” Cas continued, ignoring his friend’s jabs. “I may regret ever working for the Capitol, but while I did I saw what drugs can do to people.” Jesse just sighed and rubbed his forehead in response.“I won’t be part of ruining other people’s lives, or at the least enabling them to ruin their own.”
“’Kay, you know what, fine. Sorry I asked,” Jesse made to walk away, but Cas caught his arm.
“Jesse…I can’t stop you from doing..well, anything. Just be careful, okay?” he finished, giving his friend a concerned look.
“Whatever,” Jesse said tiredly, shrugging out of Cas’ grasp and walking away.
