MarketFront Update:Ā January 2016
MarketFront site changing rapidly ā look for concrete slabs this month
The noisiest work of Pike Place Marketās MarketFront constructionāthe installation of 120 drill piers that are 45-90 feet deepāwas completed in December. Sellen Constructionās crew is now working on building 22 grade beams, which rest on the drill piers and serve as the foundation of the building.
Several of the grade beams work to take the weight of the building off the train tunnel thatās below the project. The largest grade beam is the largest Sellen Construction has poured in their companyās 70 year history, according to the MarketFront superintendent Troy Landis.
In January, Sellen will begin building the concrete slab that will sit atop the grade beams. The slab will be built in sections from north to south and should be completely poured by mid-February.
Once each section of concrete slab is in place, the vertical structure of the building will begin to go up (also built in sections from north to south). At that point, walls, columns, and elevated decks for four levels of parking will be visible. This work should be completed by April or early May.
