idk i see what youre saying and i feel it but like.. i cant think of a way to separate gender from gender roles since the whole thing is built on top of stereotypes of how you’re “supposed” to act and feel.. not very elegant with my words or my reply

no i feel u i guess the way i see it is like gender is YOU'RE A WOMAN. gender roles are BECAUSE YOU'RE A WOMAN....like i don't see gender as being inherently bad or defined BY gender roles

does society define a lot of gender by these roles? ye. does it make it hard to separate them sometimes? absolutely. to me i see gender as more of a personal thing like "i'm this or that and that's just me" not so much "well i like x and act like y so by society's standards I MUST BE..."

the way i see it is gender is a set of stereotypes and expectations we assign to people depending on their sex and suggesting theres a “feeling” women are supposed to feel to be women is just.. ??? i dont agree

well i guess that's how i see gender roles? like i don't think there's any inherent "feeling" that comes from being any one gender but society definitely expects people of certain genders/sexes to act a certain way or to like certain things and that's where these roles derive from. like i guess an example would be something dumb like....uhm ok so bronies are super defensive about liking mlp and insist it's secretly "manly" or they're "secure enough in their masculinity" to watch it. this comes from society's expectations that men shouldn't take interest in shows meant for girls. society's perception isn't changed to think they aren't men, but that they don't adhere to how men should act. they're not suddenly not men they're just not "how men should be"

lots of women get heaps and heaps of shit for not explicitly fitting into society's idea not necessarily of women, but how women should act, thus lots of feminism advocates that women don't necessarily have to be feminine, it's not changing their gender itself but saying their role in society doesn't have to be rigidly put forth?

gender roles aren't necessarily inherent to gender i guess? like just cuz someone identifies as a girl doesn't mean they adhere to the gender roles set arbitrarily by society (not that gender isn't a social construct too)
