You want some English fairy tales? English Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs contains some of my favorite fairy tales, including my favorite Cinderella variant, "Tattercoats". They're a good time.

Goldmayne by Kate Stradling is a retelling of two obscure fairy tales that's a ton of fun. A farmer's son leaves home, gets a job in a magical house, meets a talking horse, turns his hair to gold, runs off to another country, works as a gardener with a secret identity as a heroic knight, and has to help out a possibly-evil princess and her sisters. As you can see, it doesn't sand away all the weird parts of the fairy tale to make a bland romantasy--this story gets to be fun and off-kilter and still has a pretty good romance along with all the other stuff that's going on.
I'm late to respond, but this absolutely delighted me! Thank you and happy belated Valentine's Day!
Hey I wanted you to know I started watching Trigun because of you and I'm enjoying it so far
I'm so glad!!! it's something else for sure :]
Do I just ask you a question about your writing for Storyteller Saturday?
I hope so, because I'd love to know: what's a way you distinguish between character dialogue? Do you have a character that you feel particularly proud of the way you write/wrote their voice or manner of speech?
Pretty much, yeah! And even if not, I’m always happy to answer writing questions. Thanks for sending one in! :)
Dialogue is something I struggle with a bit, but I try to figure out how they think first, because dialogue is sort of just a filtered version of that and figuring out how a character thinks and sees/processes the world around them has always been on the easier half of things for me. Since I started doing that, it’s gotten a little easier (and better!).
Might be biased (I definitely am) but I like Calypso’s voice! She’s blunt without being entirely open. Apathetic without being heartless. I think you get a pretty good glimpse at her character from the way she talks.
