Photography/Retouching hack: to mimic film on a digital image, use a lens blur with a generous radius, use a high pass filter on top of it, then another lens blur with a smaller radius (5-8). Final lens blur also looks great applied to a noise layer.

Making a “Lord of the Rings” Landscape with an ND Filter
In the latest episode of Serge Ramelli's photography tutorials, he will show you how he edited an image he took of a small village in Britanny with an ND filter and turn it into a "Lord of the Rings"-like setting. The look he went for is fantasy with some complex lights and nice colors. One of the key things when retouching photos that have been shot with an ND filter is to get rid of the original color cast and then use the brush and radial filter to bring back little touches here and there.

About 6 years ago we started sharing our technique of recovering instant negatives from Fuji Instant pack film, with other photographers. Yes. We hacked film. Big surprise. ;-) Since then we have been relatively silent and the process has spread grassroots, thanks to many great photographers. It’s now being used around around the world, though the technique remains pretty much the same as we spelled out in the beginning. Over the years we have continued experimenting and have improved our technique. So I finally threw together a video to show the BEST way to recover the FP-100c negs with no tools, no tape, no toothbrush, no towels, no glass, no mess, and absolutely no imperfections, in just seconds! :-) Enjoy… Viva Film!
