Due to the fact that nature is cut in two (halves), each of the one - desiring the other- went to meet it (the other half) . -It basically means that during the creation of man , the nature of it was cut in two and from then on every half seeks to meet each other- .
It is from Plato's symbosium. It depicts a friendly contest of extemporaneous speeches given by a group of notable men attending a banquet. The speeches are to be given in praise of Eros, the god of love and desire.
