Smaugust day 14 - Feathered
The largest species of Amphithere, the Equator Amphithere.
Dragons are dinosaurian, and thus ancestrally have feathers. Almost all modern clades of dragons and their cousins have feathers in some form - anywhere from a full covering to a thick mane down the back to strong quills lining the spine. Some species retain the full-body coverage and bird-like appearance, and none are quite as avian as the Amphitheres.
Amphithere are large dragons found in warm regions. They live in family flocks, and spend most of their adulthood high in the sky, only descending to land for breeding, even sleeping on the wing like Swifts. They return to the same nest every season, with individuals old enough to breed then joining their flock, with juveniles staying in and near their territory, roosting on treesides at night. Amphithere are largely carnivorous, targetting other flying creatures by diving from above, anywhere from swarms of insects to dragons of the same size.
