Phinks running into ex
Phinks groaned as him and Feitan exited the liquor store. The blonde haired man leaned back and massaged his neck, his other hand carrying several bags of beer.
Feitan chuckled quietly under his mask.  “Too. heavy. for. you? Weakling.”
Phinks furrowed his brow bones.  “Shut up! It’s not that. I just don’t get why we always have to be the ones to buy that dumbass his booze!” He swallowed and looked around discreetly, hoping Uvogin hadn’t followed them somehow. Â
Phinks snapped out of his trance when his leg bumped into something hard.
“The hell?!”
He looked down, taken aback when he noticed he had walked into someone’s suitcase. Â
A young woman checked over the suitcase for any damage.
“Watch where you’re going, bud--”
Phinks felt his heart drop as his eyes met with the woman in front of him.Â
"Phinks...”
The woman seemed to freeze. It was as if she were seeing a ghost.
Memories that Phinks had pushed to the back of his mind began to re-emerge all at once, overwhelming him.
Phinks clenched his jaw, the last time he saw her playing in his head.
“I’ll...I’ll wait for you, Phinks!  Just tell me that’s what you want.”
“Hey. Yeah...this is...yeah.”
The woman continued to look at Phinks. There were so many things she wanted to say.
“I...never thought I’d see you again, Phinks. Let alone on the other side of the world!” She chuckled awkwardly.
Phinks went to talk but stopped when his eyes fixed themselves upon something shining on the woman’s left hand.
She’s...
The woman noticed Phinks’ stare as she pulled her hand to her side.
“Anyways, it was nice to see you. I’ve gotta get going. Take care, Phinks.” She smiled sadly at him before walking away past him and Feitan.
---
Phinks laid in bed, thinking about his ex.
It had been 10 years since he had last seen her.
She was the first and last serious relationship he had ever been in. Any other relationships after that were nothing but casual hook ups.
He didn’t think about her often, but when he did, he’d think about her for hours.
Phinks thought about how she used to smile as she looked up at him.
How small her hand felt in his, and how she’d complain the size difference made it hurt to intertwine their fingers. Â
Early mornings and late nights when he would relish the feeling of her body against his...
How her eyes seemed to sparkle whenever she was happy, and especially whenever he told her he loved her. Â
Her eyes...they were so...cold.
He swallowed, thinking about the last time he saw her...
“You’re joining a gang?! Phinks! Are you crazy?!”
The woman pulled at Phinks’ wrist, his back turned to her.
“It’s not a gang! It’s a lot more complicated, and I can’t explain it to you...it’s safer this way. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me in the next year on this job...stop making this harder than it needs to be! Just--”
The woman fell to her knees, her hands grabbing tighter onto Phinks’ sleeves.
“It doesn’t matter, I’ll...I’ll wait for you, Phinks! Just tell me that’s what you want.”
She leaned her forehead onto Phinks, sobbing quietly as she waited for his answer.
Please...
Phinks took a deep breath, fighting the foreign feeling of his eyes beginning to burn.
“It’s not what I want.”
--------
He had always been honest with her up until that point. The fact that she meant so much to him was the reason why he had to do what he did. Â
They were drowning in debt; Phinks unable to land a stable job due to a few run ins with the law over the course of several years.Â
No one wanted to hire a criminal.
She had been working 3 jobs to provide for them, saying she didn’t mind as long as they could keep things the way they were.Â
She had fought so hard for them...
He couldn’t stand to watch her suffer anymore. He didn’t want to be useless.
He had met Chrollo one day after fighting several thugs in an alley years before he met his ex. Chrollo had given him a piece of paper with his number on it, saying to give him a call if he ever wanted to be rewarded for his strength.Â
Phinks found the piece of paper while moving things around their apartment. He figured it wouldn’t hurt to give Chrollo a call to see what he had to offer. He hoped he would remember him.
The initiation test to get into the Phantom Troupe was deadly, and there was a large probability that he would have died. It wouldn’t have been fair to make her wait for a dead man.
When he finished the initiation he went to find her again, but she was gone. It was almost as if she had disappeared off the face of the Earth. Â
The only thing her friends and co-workers were able to tell him were that she was so distraught after their break up, that she wanted “to start over again, completely.”
Where did she go? What had she been doing for the past 10 years?
He thought about the ring on her finger.
What was the other person like? Did they look after her?Â
Did they know just how lucky they were?
What if he never left? Would they have been married by now? Maybe they would have a kid..or more...
He shook his head and growled before throwing a pillow onto his bed.
Phinks stood up as he looked at his shirtless reflection in the mirror.
He gently stroked the tattoo on the left side of his chest.
A heart with her name in it.Â
He had gotten it after one of their biggest fights, her claiming he didn’t love her. It was the only way he could think of proving how he felt about her at the time.
Stupid kid.
He smiled sadly before turning back to his bed, a large tattoo of a spider and the number 5 covering his back, replacing the previous reflection.
There was no other life for him but the Spiders now.Â
