The Kimmel Center Will Add Movies to its Offeringsâ¨
GPFO Interest: Community Partners (The Philly Post)
Philadelphia Business Journal reports the Kimmel Center is partnering with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office to begin screening occasional movies at the Center City facility:
Anne Ewers, president and CEO of the Kimmel Center, said the hope is that it will be âa premier venue for movie screenings in Philadelphia.â
It will not have a formatted schedule of movies, like a movie theater. Rather, the theater will be a venue for regular film-related events, screenings, local premieres, independent films, documentaries, film festivals and so on.
âThis isnât going to be a traditional movie theater,â Sharon Pinkenson, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, told me. âWeâve been talking to lots of people for years about how we needed more venues for film.âÂ

YouTube Channels Will Soon Charge Users (and 4 Other Things You Must Know)
GPFO Interest: Online Media (The Wrap)
For YouTubers who create great value with a small but passionate fan base, âthe potential of paid channels unlocks an opportunity to create new revenue streams,â Kyncl told reporters, teasing what has been previously reported. Then, later, he hinted at the real news: Channel creators will need to teach people to take out a credit card. But lest you think Kyncl was affirming this would happen, he then added: âThat being said, we have nothing to announce at this time.â Translation: wait a few months.
It makes sense. YouTube knows that channels with devoted followings could earn a tremendous amount of money by charging viewers. Fans of Helbig or Hardwickâs Nerdist Channel will fork over cash to watch their videos. For a platform dependent on advertising revenue, subscriptions would benefit both its creators and its own economics.
