The Kimmel Center Will Add Movies to its Offerings

Philadelphia Business Journal reports the Kimmel Center is partnering with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office to begin screening occasional movies at the Center City facility:

Anne Ewers, president and CEO of the Kimmel Center, said the hope is that it will be “a premier venue for movie screenings in Philadelphia.”

It will not have a formatted schedule of movies, like a movie theater. Rather, the theater will be a venue for regular film-related events, screenings, local premieres, independent films, documentaries, film festivals and so on.

“This isn’t going to be a traditional movie theater,” Sharon Pinkenson, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, told me. “We’ve been talking to lots of people for years about how we needed more venues for film.”

Prime Focus World said Wednesday that Hong Kong-based private equity firm AID Partners Capital Limited has made a $10 million equity investment in the visual-effects company. 

Prime Focus, a subsidiary of Indian media and entertainment industry services company Prime Focus Limited, said that with the investment, the company is now valued at $250 million.

Dick Lippin to Be Honored by Penn State with Service to Society Award

The Lippin Group founder Dick Lippin will be honored with Penn State’s 2013 Service to Society Award.



Honor, given to Liberal Arts alums who have contributed to society on a humanistic level, will be presented at a ceremony tomorrow at the university’s College of Liberal Arts.



Lippin founded praisery The Lippin Group in 1986, but beyond his professional ventures, has also established numerous cancer programs including the Ronnie Lippin Cancer Information and Resource Line after his wife, Ronnie, passed from a rare form of breast cancer seven years ago. Information and Resource Line provides counseling services to individuals and families dealing with cancer-related matters.
