Koorie Heritage Trust & Phillips Island
The Koorie Heritage visit was a great experience. It was cool to learn about Aboriginal land and history from an actual Aboriginal guide. Also, I enjoyed when the guide had us listen to the different sounds in the park and discuss which sounds were new ones and which sounds were old ones. It was awesome to see and hold the different Aboriginal tools as well. My favorite part of the tour was when the guide explained to us how hunters threw boomerangs and what they hunted with them. Overall, the Koorie Heritage visit helped to expand my knowledge about Aboriginal life and culture.
Phillips Island was my favorite part of the entire trip so far. The Koala Conservation center was very cool, but the koalas were all sleeping so there was not very much to see. The penguin parade was mesmerizing though. I had no idea what to expect when we went there because I was unsure how the parade was supposed to work. It was wild to me that the penguins were so comfortable with people being extremely close to them. I also found it funny to watch the tiny penguins run across the beach in packs. The walk back up to the main center was the best part because the penguins were all over the place making their way to their dens. It was amazing to see the penguins so close up. As a whole, Phillips Island was an extremely wonderful experience, and I really want one of those tiny penguins.
