well, actually it’s from a basketball fan as what will be the central topic of this entry. like it or not, i’m just again, throwing my two cents here..

So far this Philippine Cup had been the most interesting of all conferences. Like what my brother and i always discussed, this conference had been the most competitive. i mean, there are no clear-cut favorites. Every team is a contender. The entry of rookies, who don’t even play like they’re are rookies (still waiting for Bobby Parks Jr., i know he will contribute a lot to BWE or to whichever team he falls to) had been one of the main stories of the conference. Every team had retooled and made it a point to all contend for the title.

Imagine, CJ Perez lifting Columbian, Bolick waxing hot for Northport, and BWE retooling with Abu Tratter, Paul “Atin to” Desiderio, and Parks (though this is still uncertain). NLEX acquired Erram, SMB acquired Terrence, Phoenix doing trades here and there, every team made it a point to beef up their rosters.

As of now, Phoenix and Rain or Shine hold the 1 and 2 seed respectively, to my surprise but very good and interesting. Look at how Phoenix just destroyed teams after teams (Wright’s 3-pointer against the Beermen was a testament), how Rain or Shine also beat top teams (includes my Beermen and Ginebra). James Yap still scoring at will just like his MVP days.

See, it’s a conference to really watch for..

But..

As i scroll through social media, it kinda bums me out when i see comments like, “Phoenix will not even make it past quarters”, “SMC teams will still dominate”, “it will be boring without Ginebra”, blah blah blah. And they are the same that keeps on pouting when the usual favorites (let’s do acronyms, SMC and MVP, hahaha) are on top. Like really, what do you want? If the usual contenders are on top, you pout! If the underdogs or the improved teams go on top, you still smash them down.

So what in the world do you really want??

I know the PBA is not as exciting as it is in the days when i just started watching. Trades are very common and oftentimes lopsided, Conferences are like somehow forced into schedules, Empty seats. But now, this is just my opinion, that the league balances and it kinda sets the excitement and competition, so why not just shut the hell up, watch, enjoy the greatness, and support your team!

i have sentiments on teams doing all their can to upgrade their rosters, here’s my cents, it is an executive’s role to strengthen their teams! i’ll leave it there.

i will always have my bias on SMB but i had seen great games after great games. With that i’m hopeful and happy that the league i’ve always loved will be greater than ever. Remember Rain or Shine’s toe-to-toe game 5 vs the then grand slam seeking San Mig Coffee? Or Paul Lee’s effortless game winner to make 3-0 against the Aces? SMB overcoming an 0-3 deficit? The Manila Classico? Danny I’s buzzer beater?
