Or Darry and Dally’s Dynamic?

Sorry for the two requests in the same ask.. I tend to do that a lot.. cause I’m indecisive as fuck.. T^T

AHH THIS IS A HARD ONE 🥹

I absolutely adore both of their dynamics, however my personal winner has to be Darry and Dally. The brotherhood they hold with each other while being on opposite ends of the table is darling to me.

— Will be clear so nobody confused this as what it's not — in no way do I see them in any sort of relationship, they're the ultimate brothers who both hate each other yet still care if the other's in any sort of problem.

— Ponyboy and Johnny's dynamic is extremely cute to demonstrate. The two are almost exact opposites yet their bond makes them inseparable, similar to Steve & Sodapop, which I can't help but laugh at the parallels between the two duos & yet Ponyboy's still convinced he hates Steve.

How I see these dynamics are something of

Johnny's a quiet sponge, he soaks in everything said to him, no matter how serious the comments are. Every piece of information shared is another thing he keeps stored. Ponyboy likes him for that reason, because unlike anyone else in the gang, Johnny passionately listens as much as Ponyboy passionately rants. — Of course Pony has Soda too, but Soda's mind can play a thousand and two conversations at once so he never exactly keeps track of Ponyboy's stories.

Additionally, Ponyboy doesn't have to hide behind a mask in front of Johnny. — He's scared of being judged by the other greasers, but Johnny isn't like the others. He's. Different. Of course Johnny is still one of them, he's a good partner in a rumble, he's scary if you don't know him, and has bruises and scars littering him entirely. However no matter the scars, he remains (relatively) the same, shy, Cade. He doesn't toughen up the way Steve or Dally would, he stays open to the world no matter how cruel it'd been to him. Ponyboy admires that. Johnny doesn't realize it.

On the other hand,

Dallas is a needed evil in the gang, and for as much as Darrel hates him for being reckless, he can't help but appreciate what Dally does for the group. He's a good man in a fight, and he's never taken back his word. — I feel like the two were closer way before the death of the Curtis folks, they started drifting apart while Darry was focused on football, and only grew further away as Darry graduated. They haven't ever repaired the damage made during past arguments, and being known for their stubbornness, they never did.

All of that to say, I don't think they actually HATE each other, but I don't think Dally respects Darry at ALL considering how he's the one to intimidate Darrel instead of it being the other way around. — The two, though similar in the way they're both older brothers, have a different view of the world, which keeps them apart. — Dallas has seen how the world treats a poor kid on the streets, Darry was protected from how the world works in the sense nobody willingly went to jump him.

Dally depended on survival, Darry depended on his folks.

One last thing, Song to Woody by Bob Dylan just started to play & that song reminds me of Darry & Dallas more than I'd like to admit 🥹
