preview:
"Kate." The tone — unexpectedly terse to the both of them — causes Kate's stare to lift immediately, finding Yelena's and holding still. "What are you doing?" When she straightens, Kate's fingers brush along the top of Yelena's shoulder (still covered by her coat. And button-up shirt. And long-sleeved undershirt), and even through three layers, Yelena feels the touch. "What do you mean? I'm buying tickets." She maintains the straight-face without slip until the moment one corner of her lips twitches, giving away the awareness that hadn't disappeared, only gotten more subtle. Unfortunately, this catch is not a particularly brilliant win, as it means Yelena has (not at all strategically) been staring at Kate's mouth. "Spring Break is in less than two weeks! I actually kinda forgot it was already March." The only way to call Kate out on it is to draw attention to it, which is — likely — exactly what Kate had intended in the first place. (The combination of arousal and annoyance and fondness is a very strange one, but it makes Yelena's mouth feel dry, all the same.)
