i almost had a mini heart attack i thought i reblogged on my ask blog !!
I wrote this into the tags after I saw @playinginthunderstorms tags (#why are you upset eddie it's not like you were planning on staying at this point!!! #i mean i know why he's upset #but #there is a point there i think) on this beautiful gif set by @rainscenes because now I can’t stop thinking about this!!! When Eddie finds out about the transfer he’s already planning to leave. He finds out at his going away party! But how much of him expected the 118 and LA to just stay static as if it's waiting for him? As if he could go live a whole new life in El Paso with this (incorrect) idea that nothing back home would change (very wizard of oz vibes) so there's no rush to return because it'll always be waiting for him. And that of course includes Buck (wait for me to come home!!). But Buck’s not playing by their pre-established rules anymore, and Buck’s asking for a transfer. So to Eddie it’s this immediate realization that oh, it does in fact matter than I’m not making decisions and not taking action, because everyone else and everything else is still changing while I’m gone. Which is almost inconceivable because Eddie's entire m.o. is wanting more time, and how there isn't enough time, and how tomorrow isn't promised. No one knows better than Eddie that time and circumstance wait for no one, no matter how not ready you are, not matter how much you want to pause your life to figure it and yourself out. Yet he’s been treating El Paso like this liminal space that doesn’t or won’t affect anything else. But of course it has! Eddie moving is the thing that kicked off everything in Buck changing, and in turn between them changing, that was then exacerbated by Bobby dying.
