Prompts from this list (#47 and #60) for Hellebore and Pharony.
âYou look like you could use a hug,â W. Hellebore Mebarak heard, looking up from where sheâd been looking down into the snowy valley below. Â Turning, she saw Pharony, garbed in grey and blues, fur mantle framing their face as they gave a small smile. Â A kiss brushed her temple as she flushed, shifting her pack. Â âSomething wrong?â they ask, head tilting the other way now as mismatched eyes glinted in the late afternoon sun.
âItâs nothing,â she said, brushing off the turbulent thoughts with a wave of her hand. Â They had bigger things to worry about. Â âHow did the job go?â
Pharonyâs smile slipped a little as they sighed, shaking their head. Â âNot great... Â I got paid, naturally, but...â Â She hands over the coinpurse, definitely lighter than the one-thousand gold pieces they had been promised, making Hellebore frown as she did a quick count. âThe guild is taking more and more every job I take and they keep saying Iâm behind on my dues...â
Hellebore frowned at that, sighing. Â âI still say you should make them let me see the ledger proving this...â
âIâm leaving the guild,â Pharony said, shaking her head. Â âI might not be able to take as many jobs if I freelance, but no one will take my earnings from me...â
Vibrant red eyes looked worried at that, but she knew the truth in those words. Â And a freelancer would be able to pick and choose their jobs more freely than Pharony currently could, at any rate. Â âWonât they continue to come after you, though?â
Pharony smiled a little, winding one arm around Hellebore, leaning close to kiss her forehead again. âTrust me. Â I have a few contacts and I have a job already lined up...â At Helleboreâs disapproving frown, Pharony laughed, kissing her forehead again. âYouâre adorable, love. Â Itâll all work out.â

Okay, @thewordsmithofhell and @rebel-the-reaper, meet Pharony Diplomat. Â They are actually the Guardian that I mention from time to time in Aviary, and is Fae!Rioâs gangly girlfriend in A Prison Called Sanctuary. Â The watermark is from my Deviantart account, starvingme.deviantart.com
She is also apparently a babysitter of a halfling and half-orc when I play at being a DM.
I was tagged by the wonderful @pterodactyldrops, and Iâm excited to do something for my sparkly new characters, Rio, Pharony, and UK! Â All right, seven objects they would have in their pockets...
Rio:
Photo ID (sheâs an elf in space working for an agency--she has to have an ID)
Spare translator ring--she has an implant, but not all Fae have the Gift of Tongues, and if youâre dealing with a scared kid and a language barrier, itâs just easier for everyone.
A couple of suckers. Â She canât exactly remember whatâs in them, but this very nice Fae lady who owns a little sweets shop sends her some once in a while, and theyâre helpful when dealing with little kids (and theyâre enchanted to last a long time and have soothing properties).
A photograph of herself when she was first taken, occasionally using it as a means to try to find her family.
A packet of tissues. Â Her job involves saving kids. Â The tissues are more for them.
A small selection of rations--dried meat, nuts and seeds, and usually a random other item if sheâs rescuing someone of a particular race. Â She once had to buy nori sheets to help calm down a little water-fae so he could tell her where to find his tribe. Â Nothing is more comforting to a scared child than a bit of food.
Fire blanket. Â They fold up really small and are super useful for a lot of things!
Pharony:
A finger bone. Â The Hallowed that they deal with can often be bribed with a treat, and a finger bone is easier to carry than a chicken carcass.
An old coin from her employer.  He gave it to them after he âdealtâ with their parents, who had been abusing and neglecting them.  The coin is to symbolize the debt they owe to the man that rescued them.
An old-style moon-stone communicator, used to speak with the crews that deliver the monthly supplies.
Packets of salve. Â They deal with the Hallowed, many of whom are barely more than semi-sentient animals, and it can be difficult to avoid wounds.
A handkerchief with their initials embroidered in the corner. Â Pharony does not know their initials, as Pharony does not read in any traditional sense.
A spool of silver thread. Â Itâs surprising how useful thread can be.
An old, faded photograph of their parents on their wedding day. Â This serves as a reminder that no matter how sweet and loving parents/people appear, you canât truly know their dark side without living in it.
UK:Â
A pad of paper and pen. Â UKâs visions can get sporadic, and sheâs skilled at writing when her focus is elsewhere.
Bandages. Â She has a habit of giving them to people moments before they need it or she will sometimes wait patiently for the event to occur and offer the bandage. Â Most people find this weird, but donât question it until after sheâs long gone.
An origami flower. Â It was found with her when she woke up in a Fae-run clinic with no memories and no inkling of who she was or where she came from. Â Itâs crinkled, and the edges are fraying, but she keeps it as a reminder.
Sticky notes. Â Similar to the bandages, she can sometimes help people by writing/leaving random notes where sheâs foreseen that they will look. Â No one has seen her do it, but she knows it helps.
Sleep medication. Â She doesnât get to choose when the visions happen, and sometimes, the only way she can make them stop is to medicate herself into a stupor and sleep it off. Â Sheâs been trapped awake for a couple of days several times now.
The business card of the nice doctor that has helped to keep her identity a secret. Â Granted, per all the paperwork on her is that sheâs a Lesser Fae and technically said doctorâs pet, but thatâs the price you pay for not being hunted to the death.
A small book of sigils. Â The sigils have varying uses, from banishing enemies to summoning help to warding off evil. Â One of them is her mark for her Gift of Safe Passage that allows her to pass back and forth between the Fae Realms, but she doesnât like to use it, because it always brings trouble.
And now I tag people! Â (you donât have to do it if you donât wanna, and you can just do one, Iâm an over achiever and I like writing)
@thewordsmithofhell, @raptorflora, @peacheat, @oddsarenotinyourfavor, and anyone else that wants to do it! Â (I donât remember who has characters... Â IDK if you wanna do a non-OC, have fun!)
(AKA, space elf lesbians because why not? Â So Iâve got Pharony (Doll Chateau Dolores) and Rio (Soom Nephilim) and theyâve been an unofficial couple since I put them on the shelf together about a year ago. Â Iâve been reworking Lord and Lady for some time, and itâs making more and more sense that it should be Rio and Pharony, and some of the story elements that havenât been clicking started to click. Â Also, I entered @therealdeanwinchester13âs little flash-fiction contest, and this is my entry. Â I had to reword the prompt a little bit, but I kept the intention of the prompt.)
(Pharony is nonbinary and uses she/her/they/them, Rio is female and uses she/her. Â Both are elves, though different classifications/species of elf. Â Set in a space station, because space elf lesbians. Â No sexiness, sorry. Â Mentions of past trauma, though I donât elaborate because thatâs going to be in the full story which I have to finish writing first. Â Abrutio is an asshole. Â He did and does many bad things, just not in this flash-fic)
(Last thing, no, Pharony calling Rio âRoâ is not a typo--her full name is Rowan Lenore Maximillian, but adopted the name Rio after a stay on another planet where the natives called her Rio.)
Pharony didn't know what to expect when she knocked on Rio's door. Â They had dropped her off at the agent's station three months ago, despite her pleading and struggling, and they had gotten back on their ship and flew away. Â It had taken everything Pharony had to do that, keeping that stony expression as they turned their back and walked away. Â Pharony never met her gaze, blue-gold eyes looking up at them with that pleading expression, simply handed her over to their raging commander and left.
It had been a mercy, Pharony told herself. Â Pharony's master had grown suspicious, and he had made it clear in no uncertain terms that if Pharony was harboring Rio, that her master wouldn't protect them from Abrutio.
And Pharony wouldn't let that happen to the one she loved.
So she had done the only thing she could do to protect Rio, pushing her away and burying the hurt as they flew away.
But now, with thing changed and the world no longer being safe, even with her master's protection, and knowing that Abrutio was on the hunt again for Rio, Pharony refused to stand by. Â As soon as they got word that Abrutio was closing in on the elusive agent that had not only escaped his collection, but also had made off with a prized possession, Pharony knew there was no timeâthey had to get Rio out of there.
Pharony didn't expect Rio to answer the door, draped in something soft and gauzy that did nothing to hide anything as she leaned against the doorway. Â There it was, the hurt in those eyes as Rio squared her jaw and scowled.
âWhat do you want?â
Swallowing quickly, Pharony bowed slightly, a measure of respect. Â It also helped her to discretely look the agent over. Â She was pale, though she'd always been pale. Her hair was a tangle of wild curls and waves, the buzzed sides shaggy with growth. Â The markings on her face, lines that said secrecy and honor and danger followed the curve of her cheekbones, over her lips and chin. Â Pharony wanted to trace the ones under her eyes, the ones that made her look fierce and wild, but kept their hands at their sides. Â Straightening up, Pharony said calmly, âAbrutio is looking for you.â
Her eyes, with their almost metallic sheen, caught the light from the hallway as they rolled with a scoff. âWhat else is new?â
âHe knows you're here,â the guardian added, trying to keep their voice low.
âSo what?â Rio asked, yawning. âLet him find me. Â Not like I'm worth anything anymore... Â What's he going to do to me that he hasn't done already?â
Pharony was at a loss for words for a long time. Â This wasn't the same agent she'd been forced to leave behind. Â Pharony flinched behind their mask, instinctively reaching up to ensure it was still in place. Â It wouldn't do for Rio to be able to so easily read her again. Â âHe's coming to kill you...â
âOh.â Â That was all Rio said. Â A cold, flat âohâ. Â Sighing, she shrugged. Â âThanks for the heads up,â she said as she started to turn away, letting the door close behind her.
Pharony's gloved hand shot out, stopping the door before it closed, stepping inside. Â âOh? Â What do you mean 'oh'?!â Â Anger rose in their throat and Pharony wanted to scream as the door slid shut behind them. Â Rio was turning back, but before she could even start to be indignant, Pharony was crossing the foyer, âHe has been waiting months for this chance! Â It's the entire reason that I had to-â
Pharony's rant was cut short as one boot caught the edge of a rug on the cold, metal floor, the fabric sliding as they tried to catch themselves, and, before they could decide to just let themselves fall, they collided with Rio, taking her down with them. Â Instincts took over, and Pharony braced for the fall with their forearms, eyes closing for the impact. Â
The tumble to the metal floor was jarring, bodies colliding hard as they landed in a tangle of limbs. Â Rio grunted, rubbing her head as she grumbled. Â For a moment their eyes met, and there was only hurt in Rio's eyes, glinting with tears in the low light from the candles around the room. Â Pharony was only a breath away from her, taking in the way her hair fell around her face in messy curls, looking like she'd been lying in bed instead of being half-tackled to the floor. Her lips looked soft, inviting, and Pharony realized how much she wanted to kiss that hurt away, to make the agentâthe elf, she reminded herselfâsmile again and see joy return to those bright eyes. Â A flash of memory had her heart twinging as she remembered Rio, lying on a bed, surrounded by candlelight, waiting for Pharony.
âLet me up,â was all Rio said, and the moment was gone. Â Pharony almost flinched again, simply glancing away before rising to her feet and holding out a hand for the disheveled elf.
âPlease, just let me explain,â Pharony tried again as Rio tucked the gauzy thing around her again, trying hard not to let her gaze wander again.
âAll right,â Rio said, her voice bitter. Â âExplain to me why you would just dump me on a station where I have no job, no money, no ties, and no way to fend for myself. Â Explain to me why, after I told you... after I had begged you not to abandon me, that's all you did, after swearing you would not.â
Pharony did flinch this time, looking away. Â Had it really been that same day? Â She had been an idiot, recalling the way Rio had looked, tiny and defenseless and utterly alone, how she'd clung to Pharony when she returned from meeting with her master. Â So much had happened, she didn't even think...
Swallowing heavily, Pharony said, âI wanted... to protect you...â
âBullshit!â
âIt's true!â the guardian said, head lifting and meeting Rio's gaze. Â âI was given one ultimatumâlet you go, or my master was going to turn us both over to Abrutio!â
Rio's anger stilled, though it was clear she was still fuming. Â There was a long silence before Pharony said, âYou should have told me. Â I could have worked something out!â
âI couldn't take that risk!â Pharony said, shaking their head, raven hair falling around their face. Â âI had to throw him off the trail, or else he was going to...â Â Their voice trailed off as mismatched eyes closed, trying not to fuel that fear, that anxiety. Â The very thought of Abrutio being close enough to touch Rio... Â âI had to know you were safe...â Pharony said at last, tears welling up behind closed eyes, burning their face as they fell beneath their mask. Â âI couldn't risk your safety, not for my foolish pride...â
âIt's still my safety... So it's my choice...â Rio said, voice softening, but still hard, like velvet-wrapped steel. Sighing, Rio ran a hand through her hair, wincing as the tangles caught her fingers before turning with a yawn. Â âMight as well come inside, seeing as how you already invited yourself in...â
For the first time, Pharony took a look around, seeing the cans piled up here and thereânot beer cans, but paint cans, varnish and thinner, a couple tins of kerosene in one corner, and machine parts everywhere. Â Gears and cogs took up most of the space, ranging from a pile of ones no bigger than Pharony's pinky nail, to a few haphazard stacks a foot and a half across. Â The guardian followed Rio deeper into her quarters, frowning slightly. Â âHoly shit, Ro,â she murmured, looking around carefully as they picked their way through the debris of what had to be at least two small pods. Â âYour place is a wreck...â
Rio simply scoffed, rolling her eyes as she started to dress, pulling on the nano-fiber suit without even bothering with the smallclothes she usually wore beneath, hunting for her leggings as the tunic fell t a tantalizing length just above the curve of her backside. Â âHad I known I was going to have guests at three in the goddamn morning, I might've bothered to clean up.â Â Pants located, she started to tug them into place before realizing that Pharony was staring. Â Not saying anything, she simply quirked an eyebrow and yanked the pants on.
âWell,â Pharony said, sighing, though she wouldn't admit that it was because she'd enjoyed getting to see more of the lithe elf, âat least you won't have to worry about that now...â
Her musings were interrupted by an angry-sounding chirp from her communicator. Â Flicking the print-pad, she growled into the microphone, âWhat?â
âSorry to interrupt, captain,â the almost-nasally voice of her ship's AI said, drawing Rio's attention as she tugged on plated footwraps. Â âI thought you might want to know that His Lordship's... errr... ship... has docked at the station, four ports down.â
Pharony's blood ran cold as Rio scrambled to wind the ties quicklyâit didn't need to look good, it just needed to save her tender feet from any sharp edges between here and the guardian's ship. Â She knew who His Lordship was, and all bravado was gone as she scrambled to gather the few necessary items from her roomâmedication, blaster (left on the charger), and her own communicator, slapping it on as she grabbed her long coat and black helmet with it's full-face visor. Â If she didn't speak, she could look like any other merc on this rock. Â With a quick swipe to blacken the visor just enough that it would hide her markings, she tugged it on, wincing as the padding caught one ear. Â She didn't have time to fix it, they needed to be gone.
She almost slid her hand into Pharony's as they turned to leave, opening the door to the brightly-lit hallway, deciding not to at the last second. Â Rio collided with Pharony for the second time, realizing that the guardian stood in the doorway, almost blocking her from view of the tall, white-haired figure that gazed down at them with cold, dead eyes.
âLord Abrutio,â Pharony said, voice calm despite the panic that rose in her chest. Â âWhat a pleasant surprise.â
@the-inquisitor-rio part 2. Because I had to ruin your day a second time... love you
Her brother comes back a few days before expected, the hunt went really good and they managed to find loot so the spirits are high. Her eyes search for Pharony's as soon as she steps foot in the grand hall. Only to find Pharony looking away, and actually managing to avoid her at all cost, but hey she would not be named Hell if she lets her.Â
So much like her own fiance, she stalks Pharony, keeps an eye open for any conversation with her name on it. At one time she catches one of the men teasing Paharony about a certain Hafling they encounter and how she seems to have the hots for Silvyr; she wants to yell and cry and all she can do is sit there and pretend she did not hear anything. She needs answers and she is not gonna get them sitting down.
After almost two days of stalking, she manages to get her alone by the stables. She approaches from behind knowing fully well that Pharony knows of her presence.
âThose are really good.â she points out jumping a bit when Pharony closes her sketchbook loudly and makes a motion to get up. âWait, please⊠Before you leave may I ask one question?â Pharonyâ huffs in respond but she stays, cold mismatched eyes looking at Hell. To Hellebore she looks like a hurt bear just waiting to jump on her in defense or to make a run for it, so she steadies her ground at the same time giving Pharony space.
âWhy don't you like me?â she thinks a bit and then asks again. âHave I done something to you?â She asks making her voice as soft as possible.
âThat is two questions...â Her tone is icy and it makes Hell shiver since she has never been on the receiving end of that tone.
âAm sorry...uhm⊠the second one?â she said biting her lip nervously.
âYou haven't done anything to me...â Pharony spats looking for a clearance.
âSo, the first one?â She asks cautiously, waiting for the already known reply.
âAugh. âPhaprny sighs and for a mere second, it reminds Hell too much of Madocus. âIs not⊠Is not that I don't like you⊠Is just...â She sighs again and Hell is getting ready to retreat. âListen⊠you already have someone, and maybe am reading too much into this âyour Hellâ thing; but⊠I would like you to stop. Nothing good can come of it, Lady Hell.â
âDo you have⊠Someone.â her voice come out shaky.
âI do.â The words on the wind sound truthful but the mismatched eyes looking at her give out the possibility of a lie. But of course is true why would she lie. Pharony finally retreats and Hellebore feels as she has lost a million battles. Numb is the word you are looking for. She goes to her room and does come out for days.
She is on her third day of eating nothing but water when she hears her. First is just a laugh that could have easily come in from the outside. It grows louder with the more weaker she gets. By midnight she believes she actually hears singing, there you have it she is finally going senile just like Madocus makes everyone believe.
âSo you are just gonna lay there and wait for what?â The voice moves into the room.
âWhoever you are, just go away.âShe says tiredly.
âShe is not coming to get you⊠The fierce Ranger gave up as soon as she saw that ring on your hand...â The voice adds mockingly. âSe didn't even wanna try. You sure know how to pick them.â
âI said go away...â She throws a pillow in the direction of the voice only hear it laughing in the opposite direction, the room is too dark why have light when all you want is disappear.
âCome on, when I decided you will be worthy I never imagine you were just gonna lay and let yourself go⊠Over a woman nonetheless⊠You said you wanted to be strong and powerful, and this what I get in return⊠A pitiful creature.â The curtain on the room open all the sudden, the light of the afternoon invades the room and Hellbore is blinded for a moment. The woman in front of her is smiling but the smile doesn't reach her eyes.
âIs you why are you here, you are not supposed to hear...â
âI got bored, I do that sometimes bare with me...â Hell gets up. âCome on Hellebore your wedding id tomorrow or have you forgotten...â
âIt can be, is not even winter...â She looks out the window only to find the ground covered in snow. âBut it cant be...â
âTime is weird when you are having fun⊠Would you do it again...â Hell looks at her clueless. âIf she were to knock on the door, will you do it again, run away with her, leave everything behind⊠Your brother...â
âIn a heartbeat.â
âFoolish creature⊠Love is nothing but pain, and don't you forget that. One day she will leave or she will be taken from you. Then what will you do.â She asks getting closer to Hell. âDo you even know what you getting into⊠She belongs to a demon.â
âThen that day I will die with her.â
âHave it your way then.â
She is gone.
Thereâs a soft knock on the door. Hell opens her eyes and the light of someone opening the door hits her on the face, she knows that silhouette even with eyes closed, she has memorized by hand. She gets up from the bed so fast that there's a wonder as why she doesn't trip on the blankets and fall face on the floor, she rushes the figured with a hug while the other gasps and does her best not to drop whatever she was carrying, while at the same time grabbing the threshold of the door for support. The tears come easy and she starts to shake while trying to get ahold of herself.
âHell⊠Hell, you are scaring me⊠let me put the tray down⊠Or we are gonna burn ourselves.â Without letting go, Hell allows her to move to the side table and put the tray down. âHell, look at me did you had a bad dream.â Hell only nods her head, but pharony pulls her head up so she can see her. âHey⊠there you are⊠It was just a bad dream, is over; whatever it was it cannot hurt you no more. Am here.â
âYou are here.â The tears cannot seem to be able to stop, but at least she is smiling. âYou promise.â
âI promised once and I will do it again...â Giving her a soft kiss on Hellâs lips. âNow you have eaten nothing but rations and Gnome Ramsey made a great breakfast today.â Hell shakes her head. âNo...â
âCan you just hold me⊠I missed you...â Pharony only nods, pulling her up and carrying her towards the bed, an hour latter Hell still sleeping on her arms while she caresses her white hair. Later she thinks, she will ask much later, right now she is just happy to have her Hell curled against her.

(Short clip from Pharonyâs perspective! I know I wasnât the most descriptive during this scene, and I forgot Wolfieâs actual reaction woops anyways donât cry!)
For @thewordsmithofhell , my Darling dear.
âI heard a rumor about you in the marketplace,â Hellebore says as Pharony looks up at her, stomach dropping to their feet. Â They want to swallow, to brush it off, to do anything but look at Hellebore, but they canât look away. Â
Was this it? Â Would this be the end of the fleeting dream? They hadnât even been able to buy a ring yet, all because Pharony was so foolish as to think they could get away with swiping the cat... Â Oh, the cat... Â She was curled up in Helleboreâs lap, silent and content as her hairless tail flicked at the air. Â
She didnât regret saving Pearl. Â
She did regret not getting paid.
Hellebore was waiting expectantly for an answer.
âOh?â they said, already having an idea what sort of rumors were being spread now.
âThey said youâre a murderer.â
Pharonyâs heart sinks as they flinch inwardly. Â Outwardly, they donât show it. Â They canât.
âThat oneâs true, sort of,â Pharony says in measured tones, keeping Helleboreâs gaze. Â Piercing garnet eyes watched her, and Pharony wished for a moment that they had died. Â âIt happened when I was a child... Â I wanted to be free... Â and I was tricked.â Â Hellebore waited as Pharony chose their words carefully, looking away at last. Â âI was doing some chore... Â gathering herbs or kindling or... something... Â But I wanted to go down into the valley insteadâthe moonglow flowers were blooming, and I remember thinking it was so important at the time...â Â Pharony closed her eyes to tamp down the shudder, feeling the lingering effects of the toxin, coupled with the memory seared into their mind.
âIt came up behind me as I was complaining about the work... It said it knew a way to free me from having to do the work, implying that it would do take care of the chore for me, if I did something for it... Â And so I agreed.â
What Pharony didnât tell Hellebore was the way it felt, like her skin had been on fire, the way she had screamed. Â The clan had tried to help, but rushed to their ends, never knowing what hit them. Pharony didnât tell Hellebore that sheâd been aware, that she could do nothing to stop the demon that took over and slaughtered her family. Â Every last one of them, gone in a matter of hours.
âI was a child, and I have to live with that for the rest of my life,â Pharony said, half expecting Hellebore to leave. Â No amount of gentle âWolfieâs or silent pleading would stop her if she wanted to leave. âThatâs why I didnât want to come to Verona... Â That, and my clan and yours were not the best of friends when they were around, if memory serves...â Â Pharonyâs sigh was deep and resigned, closing their eyes as they steeled their resolve for what was to come. Â
What Pharony didnât tell Hellebore was everything that happened afterward. Â The rampage through the forest. Â The dead trees. Â The way nothing would ever grow there again. Â The way her mind tore itself apart to get free. Â And then, once freed, being forever marked, forever hunted. Â Their face was known if ever they removed their Glamour. Â To live for a hundred years like that, it wasnât something they wanted anyone to ever know.
The toxin made her shudder again, harder this time. Â The fever weakened her resolve, thoughâtry as she might, she felt the words form in her mouth, fighting back a sob for the first time in what had to have been ages. âPlease donât leave me...â
